Rose are you allergic to sulfa because i am hard to treat my menieres because all the water pills contain sulfa. My doctor ordered a hearing aid but its like 1900 for one and I just cant afford that. Its a shame as bad as this disease it that they dont find a cure or at least a way to hell us all cope. I wish you the best of luck and hope things get better.

Hi kellyi1974. I do not think so. I did an allergic test maybe two years ago. Yet I have chronic allergic. True I wish they could help us all. I have being having really loud ringing. I know I need to see my Dr but no one helps me (DR). Thanks this is the second month of being sick. Part of me just want to quit but I do not. Maybe of being sick so often I feel frustrated. Rose- I know what you mean I have no insurance so everything has been out of pocket. My husband works so hard dont know what I would do without him. My doctor told me yesterday that within 5 years menieres quote starts to burn its self out and then vertigo will stop but hearing will be lost. But I have read where it doesn't always burn out as he says. Sometimes I wonder if they really know what to do or if were all just in it for the ride. Do not give up I know that is easier said then done I know I cant do alot of things O once loved but Im holding on because I know joy comes in there somewhere. If anything my faith has strengthed since being diagnosed. Hang in there and were hear to listen. Prayere to you

Hi, I have had MD for 35 years and have plenty of allergies with no causes to be found. Chronic perennial Rhinitis and chronic eye allergies are my worst nightmare. I'm on preventive meds but still have to treat each new out break. Allergy tests told me nothing. I believe they are connected to MD and have read that this could be the case, but who knows for sure!!
As for so called burnout, I have been in this stage for some years and the only change I can see is no more attacks, which is great. Pressure and imbalance is severe and imbalance gets worse because of the damage to the ear and having to deal with aging doesn't help as well. Severe hearing loss in bad ear. If this is burnout it's not what I thought it would be. But maybe it's different for everyone. Hope so.

Rose - If it makes you feel any better, my ENT doctor also suggested a hearing aid. My insurance did pay for a portion of it, but it was terribly expensive. I had the option of returning it within 90 (I think it was 90) days. Honestly, it did nothing to help. It made loud noises even louder and yet did nothing to help with the things that I couldn't hear. After several adjustments, I did finally return it after several weeks. It just did not help me at all and the technician that sold it to me agreed with my decision and seemed genuinely sorry that he could not help me. If loud noises are disconcerting for you, you may have the same problem. I am now 8 years into MD and have gone from hours of vertigo with vomiting to vertigo that would last for less than 1 minute, not long enough to make me ill. I was approved for Social Security Disability and retired 10 months ago. Living without the stress of working has made a big difference. Stress definitely is a trigger for me. Good luck to you.

Thanks. I have SSI but not enough to support myself therefore I have to work. At times I get sick or feel sick like today and have to stay home from work. I have to have two jobs to maintain a place to eat etc. SSi money would not help me stay in my place etc. I have medicaid and the Dr said they covers hearing aid and every three years I could get a new one. The hardest part is working with people who make fun of everything so am nervous. The Dr I saw seems to know about MD. My allergic at times make my MD worst but at times am clueless. Being sick a lot lately and am scared because I live a lone and have no family. Lately I can feel a change in my body and its scaring me. Anyways going to get some more rest. I have severe allergies and my current ENT believes that allergies can be one of the causes of Meniere's (I have read this also). I treat my allergies with daily meds & started allergy drops 4 months ago. I try the best I can to stay on top of my allergy reactions/symptoms because (for me) there is a direct correlation with it affecting my M.D. symptoms. Everyone is very different, but I just wanted to mention my experience. :)

Just wanted you to know I have had no luck with ENTs as well, and have lost most of my hearing in the left ear and will probably need a hearing aid as well. Recently my primary care physician, a board certified internist, told me not to freak out but there was no fluid seen in middle or inner ear after a CAT SCAN with contrast (dye) so he wanted me to have a West Nile blood test. I did and tested positive...not for the most serious kind, but for the strain I can recover on my own from...there is no medication for it!! I am dizzy pretty much everyday and used to have the severe vertigo and throwing up, but with Meclizine (for dizziness) it's better and haven't had a severe episode for about a month. Dr. says West Nile mimics same symptoms, bujt I'm still confused because my left ear always feels plugged!!! Maybe just hearing loss..................

How do you survive without treatment? This past Tues-Thurs I was sick and had to stay home on bed rest Wed-Thurs. So how should I cope without treatment?
