Mixed connective tissue disease (MCTD) or Sharp's syndrome is a human autoimmune disease in which the immune system attacks the body. MCTD combines features of polymyositis, systemic lupus erythematosus, and systemic scleroderma and is thus considered an overlap syndrome. MCTD commonly causes joint pain/swelling, Raynaud phenomenon, muscle inflammation, and scarring of...
Rhodiola is fantatic I have been using this for a while now and i have a lot more energy than I had before and yes the controll it gives me is brilliant. I still have off days its not a 100% all the time, but it does help so much and gives me that extra i need, to hold down a full time job, with this exhausting condition..
Have fun with it and enjoy the boost to your life..... :) hugs

This is something we didn't get from a rheumatologist, folks-- WE figured this out, team MCTD on DS!
Exactly as Tiggy says, there are days it doesn't work. Yexterday, I dosed twice and could barely keep my eyes open... today, I dosed once and it's working great, and I don't think it's the placebo effect, I just think during a really bad flare, nothing can overpower the MCTD completely.
The one caveat-- when the Russian athletes use this stuff, they do not use it all the time. There are no reports of tolerance or habituation, but... still, it's always better to try to do without on days when you are feeling better. On the other hand, there was one case study when this was used for depression and general exhaustion, and when the subject went off Rhodiola for too long, they returned to the depression-- no worse than before they started taking it, but it still resumed.
Isn't it weird how different it is from caffeine? You can almost sleep on the stuff, you just don't NEED to, and no real increaser in blood pressure!

Cat - how often do you take it, on a regular basis or as needed?
It really depends on how I am feeling before lunch. I try to decide if I'm going to use it by no later than 3:00, earlier if at all possible.
Today, of course, I took it at 4:45 with a cup of coffee, and I do feel edgy. Last night I slept really badly, mostly mental not physical reasons. I am glad you posted, I will get back to my usual routine.
The edginess is more of a problem in the evenings. During the day, I can usually channel it into productive activity... and most of the time, I just feel awake, not edgy.
It is no help for dry eyes and headaches, unfortunately, just energy... and I try to avoid it too close to pain meds, because those can make me edgy too.
