Man, why am I always the one to answer cuz I've used all these drugs?? How sad for me. (At least I'm not doing them anymore,right? :-) ) Anyway, mushrooms have the same sort of effect as acid. It's not quite so intense and being natural rather than chemical, I'm sure that is somewhat better. I did have trouble sleeping after doing them cuz you're body is just buzzing with adrenaline. It would also depend on how many he ate. You can sort of regulate your buzz if you (or your friends) know what you're doing. The effect does last many hours, like acid. It takes about an hour to kick in and lasts about 6-10 hours before you can function without anyone else knowing you're on something. Hope I helped a little.

angel appears to have nailed it again. Although I was never a regular user of shrooms I did them a lot years ago and can assure you of that fact.

Between that and acid they were the two most difficult drugs for me to hide. With marijuana I could talked to a police officer or my parents at the time.

On shrooms there would have been no way and we usually secluded ourselves during the time we were on them.

I always felt very loving and mellow and clear headed after a shrooms journey. I wish for your happiness, this will help your son the most.

I do not agree angel. I have done an extensive amount of shrooms, zoomers whatever you want to call them. They are a hallucinagenic like acid, but they are not the same. I have also done quite a bit of acid. Acid will keep you up for hours and keep you high for hours. The only way to come down off acid is to force yourself to sleep. Acid gives you a crazy, out of control, acid grin, I'm really ef'n stoned feeling. You're are buzzing, your mind is racing. Mushrooms on the other hand give you a much calmer sort of euphoric feeling. It's like you're being tickled from the inside. Remember getting the yawns while on mushrooms? Remember the feeling of being stoned going in waves of intensity? These are as a result of there being a lack of oxygen to the brain. Mushrooms are a poison and your bodies natural reaction to poison is to try and sleep it off. The effects of mushrooms, If the amount you have is taking all at once, will only last about three to four hours if you don't go to sleep before then. It is a myth that you can't sleep on mushrooms. That is what your body wants to do. The high is more like sleep deprivation. So, your son, mom of 3, could very easily have come home high, been very pleasent(because he felt great), and went to bed to sleep off the poison without you knowing he was stoned at all. Believe me, I did it many times in my youth. If he mixed it with other drugs like pot and drinking, you might have been able to tell a little more readily. However, there is a word of caution here. Drug users can become very smart liars and hiders of the truth. I fooled my parents for years being stoned on many drugs at different times right in front of them. I hope this doesn't scare you. I hope it helps you. Don't be fooled. He may start following all of your rules and behaving like the perfct gentleman toward you. Keep doing what your doing and don't feel guilty about it. You are merely trying to keep your son from ending up like me and wasting his life or a good portion of it.

Thank you very much for your input. It was helpful. Days have gone by since I last posted this question and what's interesting and depressing is because I have the tracking device...I know what drug he took and by his demeanor how that particular drug affected him. Lately, he's been taking Ecstasy. He doesn't sleep much and he's extremely edgy.

What is so difficult is that we are waiting and waiting and waiting for the court date. It's awful waiting. We can't do anything to help our son because "he has rights" (he's 16) and be forced into rehab. In addition...since we live in a large county and in the suburbs..we don't receive the immediate help because the problem is bigger in the city...
So frustrating......

I would bet the problem is not "bigger" in the city. It is just that the ratio is different. The percentage is probably the same, if not greater in the suburbs.(more money, not much to do) I understand that you can't do much about them focusing on inner city youth/drug problems, but don't give up. Ask for help from the Big Guy. You must ask for his gifts for him to give them to you. He gives you the choice to to come to him.
