It's not easy to kick the habit, but together we can.
Just expect some weird ups and downs, and remember to stay focused. Wanting to quit is a good start, but having a personal direction has been key for me. Like 'keeping busy' is good, but at some point, it has to have a point. I was just telling another member in a message "Do what you love, and then take it to the next level". Best way I've found to break the habit.
For me, this is my art. I produce a page a day for a graphic novel I'd been working on. All the time I'd have spent playing games and farting around, I invest in it. Keeps me away from weed, and I have something cool to show for the time invested.
As for booze.... I'm the same way. I've always been able to pick that up and put it down at will. Since I quit smoking I've only drunk twice, and not enough to call it drinking (all told between both occasions, two beers and a healthy Crown and Coke). It's all new to me but honestly, catching a buzz has lost it's luster...... not that it wasn't pleasant or that it messed with me..... I just have other things on my plate.
I won't say I'll never catch a buzz again, but strangely I find it boring, now that my body is producing it's natural stress managing chemicals and I'm past needing the canniboids to compensate.
Another tid bit- Focus on eating healthy. Quitting became a lot easier when I started making sure my body got the nutrients it needed. You can easily look this stuff up online, though if you want my intake regimen, I'm happy to pass that info along.
Best wishes!
Just checking in on this old post of yours. How's it going? You still working on not smoking weed? Did you find that you can occasionally drink and not be tempted to smoke again?
I am wishing you well.

After I initially posted this I went back to smoking pot a few weeks later, pretty heavily. Then I quit for another period of a few months and was smoking it even more until I started seeing a therapist last February. She really helped me process why I felt addicted and why I was using pot to cope. It took a lot of work (I'd show up high and tell her I didn't think I could do it) but ultimately my decision to quit was also helped by 1) not having enough money to maintain my habit and 2) finding out that marijuana increases your risk of stroke (which I am high risk for already).
I'd really recommend seeking out a therapist if you're stuck and you feel like quitting on your own isn't working. I'm so happy I'm not spending all that money, that I'm not tired and unmotivated all the time (although I still feel pretty lazy time-to-time), and that I'm not making up excuses to go home and smoke when I should be out living life.
Best of luck to those trying to quit. I've been told that an average person relapses at least 7 times before they're successful. And even now, I'm not 100% successful. It's been about 6 months since I've smoked regularly, but I have smoked about 5 times within that period.
