Lyme disease is the most common vector-borne disease in the Northern Hemisphere. It is now one of the fastest growing infectious diseases in the U.S. Lyme disease is caused by infection with the Borrelia burgdorferi bacteria, and is primarily transmitted to humans as well as dogs, horses and other domesticated animals by the bite of infected ticks.
May is the worst month of the year for me. Not only do I have the massive weather changes associated with spring, but it was also the month I was diagnosed. I started treatment May 20th or 2000, which happens to be the day before my birthday. So every year on my birthday I get to recall how little treatment has done for me. I get to revel in the feel of the arthritis in my fingers, about my destroyed knee joints, the migraines and so on. I get to look back on another year of feeling like crap, this is the 13th year I've been chronically ill.
I made a smoked pork picnic yesterday, and the effort involved has me worn out. It's so damn annoying.
I thought that finding out what was wrong with me was a great birthday present, I now realize it was just opening up Pandora's box.

As far as smoked pork picnic goes, next time invite your friends from DS and we can help! (We can at least set the table!)
My appetite still kicks in every now and then. Odd how Lyme has changed me -- in this respect for the better. If only this respect.
