I have read that if you have lyme disease, you shouldn't take prednisone (steroid). It weakens your immune system. I read your profile, you mentioned that a blood test was done on you and you can see borrelia floating around the space between red and white blood cells. The whole debate in Lyme disease arises because doctors can only rely on antibodies to determine if a patient has lyme disease. Mainstream doctors believe that 2-4 weeks are sufficient for most cases, whereas, those lyme literate doctors believe it takes months and years to get rid of borrelia. If any doctor can see the borrelia in the blood cells, there will be no debate about the length of treatment. Doctors can determine the length of treatment by checking if there is any more borrelia in the blood cells. If taking prednisone for 8 days can make you feel a lot better, I doubt that you have or still have lyme disease. I read a lot of journals posted in here. From what I have read, a lot of patients did not have a positive blood test for lyme. They have one test after another just to prove that they have lyme disease. They did not feel any better after they took months and months of antibiotics, yet they still believe they have lyme disease. Somehow, it makes me wonder how many people in the lyme disease group really have lyme disease.

Thanks for your response. Prednisone is just killing the pain for a few days and working on the inflamation. The doc said he'd give it to me for 14 days and that's it.

I guess the reason I stick with the Lyme is that the homeopathics I have used and the abx have helped when nothing else really did. And since I have had many tests and many experts tell me what it's not....I guess I stick with the symptoms and treatment that seem to fit as a "rule out".

We also went back and looked at the cysts in the white blood cells and have watched them change with treatment.

From what I understand, at this time there is no completely reliable test for Lyme disease. Some people who have Lyme do not test positive, but do respond to treatment.


Long-term antibiotics saved my life. If I would have been treated with four weeks of antibiotics, I would not be here now.

I don't have Lyme disease I have mold exposure and my understanding is that there are a few markers on the HLA-DR that should you have one or more makes it unlikely that your body can filter toxins. From my understanding one of the Lyme infections releases endotoxins, for mold it's mycotoxins and if you have one of the markers you will go chronic. In addition taking abx will make a person with the marker worse because not only is it sometimes made from toxins it also kills one of the infections and that also releases toxins. I went to the doctor today and now I'm wondering about Lyme being an autoimmune disease. I'm just thinking out loud here. Doc said prednisone would not work or help anything but inflamation. So the fact that it helped makes me wonder what's going on in the cells???

I'm going back for a bunch of blood work next week. I think I need to do some more research.
