Today my son was finishing his science paper on of all things the borelia burgdorferi spirochete bacteria. Poor thing, he was so frustrated because he was making so many mistakes on spelling
and having a hard time retrieving words from the files in his brain.
What would have normally taken him an hour to do took him double that time and when he was done he was exhausted. I just kept telling him to take deep breaths and I helped him with the spelling. I am so glad that he will be finished with his curriculum and going on to 11th grade.

It is hard for an honor student to have their brains and fingers not cooperate the way they once did. I feel for all of you.

Yes, slrow, that happened to me. Frustrating, isn't it? I noticed when I was typing that words didn't look right and the computer would flag them and but I just wouldn't know how to fix them. This and simple math I could always do in my head just snap - disappeared.

Do you think this is part of recurring Lyme's or something else you've going through? Perhaps a new medication is messing with your head or making you tired?

Anyway, don't let it stress you out too much- most people can't spell and don't even know it ;-) What cards to you have to fill out? Betcha no-one cares about the spelling!

It happens to me a lot. With numbers, too. Sometimes I will think one word and type a totally different word. For me it adds a lot of pressure when dealing with numbers and documents at work. I have to recheck my work a thousand times, and sometimes I still miss it. As for numbers I have figured out how to use tables on microsoft so it will add all the numbers FOR me.... as long as I have typed them right it works. Still, I'm never sure. I have been saying I have adult onset dyslexia... it's the lyme. I'm hoping it will resolve as the lyme does. Try not to worry if you can, and develop some strategies to reduce your stress level.

Oh yes... I had that. I was in school for my masters when it happened. My spelling and general ability to focus was way off. I had to stop school but it has much improved.

Same for me. And I've always been a good writer and speller, but now I'm always transposing letters and numbers, or hitting the wrong key. And I've never had a decent sense of direction and always had a problem distinguishing left and right. Also, when I read, I have to "SEE" the word spelled in my brain, then I understand it. I also need to "HEAR" the words spoken in my brain when I read. The good side to this, is that I really enjoy and I think often get more out of reading than other people because I am digesting it in a slow, more meaningful manner.

My LLMD thinks I may have had Lyme a long time, and this may be the root to these problems, and my brain just learned to deal with it, and compensate. But it's much worse in last couple years and he thinks its the babesia. Also, when young, my specialty was the
balance beam, and now I can hardly stand on one leg! I'm certain these problems are all connected in some manner.

Does anyone else have this cluster of "disabilities"? If so, thoughts?

Oh, and I'm prone to motion sickness. I can't help but think there is a connection between all these things...

Thanks guy's that makes me feel beter. Yes it is very frustrating. I know when I worked with my Kindergarten class at times I could not think of words or names either. I would have them trying to guess what I was trying to say it was awful.
I also get motion sickness bad too. It has gotten worse over the last 2 years. If I am going in a car and do not drive I have to take motion sickness med or I am toast.

Oh YESSSSS!! I was an awsome speller and now I have to reread everything. I have my spelling dictonary handy LOL

IT HAS BEEN A BIG PROBLEM FOR ME, INCLUDING MEMORY.

I haven't really noticed a problem spelling or with numbers. But my memory is horrible anymore. And losing things, geez. I have to concentrate sooo hard to try and remember important things and keep things really organized. It's hard because I will put so much thought into remembering something or putting something in a safe place, and I totally forget all about it. The most troubling part of it is, I KNOW that I forgot. And the harder I try to remember, the more frustrating it is, and somewhat depressing.

yup.. i go through this all the time.. I also notice that when I am talking to people I Screw words up in a sentence..I SAY all the words I WANT to say but not in order. Its kinda embarassing lol

my sister and i both have lyme. We are college educated and have always been quite articulate. We really have to laugh at ourselves a lot now because of all the brain fog, memory loss, misspelling, word find problems and such. What else can we do but joke about it otherwise we would go mad right?

some folks have asked if I was allright as if I had been drinking or something. Crasy isn't it. Then try to explain this mess.Early symptom before diagnosed.I completly understand I think.

Before I was diagnosed I swear I thought I must have a brain tumor or something because of how often I was mess up my words and spelling. I was ALWAYS a good speller and now I find myself having a hard time spelling simple words...or not being able to find a word to express something I am trying to say. Its rather annoying..but in the begginning before I was diagnosed...it was rather scary.

Yes, sometimes I have to search for a word. I am fine and then my mind in mid sentence will go completely blank! Boy I do not even want to talk about misplacing things!!!Thanks for making me not fell so alone.
