To take or Not...

Ok, so here's my issue...as I've posted before, I am struggling with the idea of whether to have another baby or not. On one hand, I have my internist and past nephrologist saying get your tubes tied immediately..don't even think about getting pregnant again!! On the other hand, my rheumy is saying that having that done is too drastic and that I can have another baby later just not now and that I need to just take a low hormone bc. Okay..so I go see an ob/gyn to get my yearly and to discuss bc and my options....she agrees with my rheumy and prescribes me LOseasonique. I'm so excited b/c i'm highly allergic to condoms(TMI) and am so happy to finally be done with them!!

Well, 30 minutes later, the gyn calls and says that she has just reviewed my chart and don't think that taking the bc is a good idea for risk of clots....WTF...why didn't she think of this when I told her I had lupus w/ nephritis? I'm so frustrated....so my question is should I talk to my rheumy about starting the bc anyway? What kind of bc do you use?

What about Mirena? that's what i use.... or even the copper one that doesnt use hormones...

I asked about using a IUD but they are concerned with the risk of infections since my WBC count is low....i don't know...i'm really thinking about just getting my tubes tied.

My husband got a vescetomy not sure how to spell. It has been wonderful. No worries!! If your husband is willing it would be great because your body is going through enough with the lupus. Best wishes.

Amethyst. I agree with your gyn. You dont want to risk bc because of the possibility of clotting while on them. I cannot take ANY type of bc meds nor the IUD. So, I am stuck with the diaphragm. The safest alternative. See what your rheumy thinks but personally, I wouldnt take the pill (or IUDs). They can cause too many problems for us.

As for getting your tubes tied...I am in the same boat as you. Too sick to have another baby right now, but really dont want to give up on the idea of having another one in the future. Tying your tubes would take away any chance you could have in the future of having another baby when you may get healthy enough. I have never contemplated having my tubes tied. I like to have the hope that "maybe" i can try for another. You are young...You may get healthy enough in a couple years to have another one. I was told before I even got pregnant by my OB to adopt and never have a baby on my own as it could kill me. Meanwhile, after seeing a high risk OBGYN, he told me he could get me thru one safely and he did. Sorry for the ramble..

PS- I think there may be one BC injection that is safe for us. It lasts 3 months. You may want to ask about that one.

It's condoms for us. I can't use any other type of BC. I would be leary of the shots. My little sis went into full blown menopause at the age of 22 with the depo shots. I have never tried a diaphragm, sounds like a good idea since condoms can be problematic at times. Don't want to get too graphic, but ya'll know what our symptoms are.
