My feet swell all the time. The swelling always seems to go down before I go to my rheumy, though. How bad is the swelling? I think it can be a symptom of lupus, but it can also be due to kidney problems or diabetes, so you might want to get it checked out by your doctor.

My feet & legs has been doing the swelling thing for alot of years now. I have showed all my doctors. You need to get your kidneys checked, your sed rate a well. I retain water like crazy. My vascular doc orded me some support stockings that just go to my knees. They were measured & fitted just for me. They help tremendously. I also take a perscription strength diuretic while this happens. Keep your legs up above your heart as much as you can. Drink a LOT of water. It takes water to loose water. I'm not a doctor, but like I said I have and continue to have this issue.

Rachelle totally covered it. It needs to be checked out because there are a couple of different causes and the treatments are not the same. Some things get better with diuretics, other times it's a kidney issue. Worse case scenario are blood clots, but those aren't usually on both legs, usually that is unilateral. So call your doc. He'll listen to the pulses in your ankles/feet and run some blood work checking your kidney functions and electrolytes.

Just wanted to add that sometimes the heat can cause feet swelling. This happens to me. It may be nothing at all but definitely call your rheumy to let them know what is going on. DO NOT take diuretics unless your dr. prescribes them though. They can be harmful if you dont really need them.

I talked to my Dr. yesterday and he said that heat is awful for lupus, also my weight does not help. My blood pressure went up and my feet were swelling, they gave me a mild diuretic and said to stay out of the heat as much as possible

This happens to me all the time.
I live in San Diego, Ca so it's pretty warm here all the time.
Like all the ladies said, go to your doctor and more than likely He/She will prescribe you some diuretics. Never buy the ones from the drug store. They never work! and avoid salty foods, drink plenty of water and keep your legs elevated.
