Lupus Support Group
Lupus is an auto-immune disease in which the immune system cannot distinguish between threats (like viruses and bacteria), and healthy cells and tissue. As a result, the body produces antibodies that inflict cell damage, most commonly targeting joints, skin, kidneys and the nervous system. Join the group and find support for coping with lupus.

For me the foods that create hot skin and heat reactions are spicy foods.
Since alfalfa sprouts are not good for lupus, what about alfalfa pills?
I would personally not take anything that has alfalfa in it. I also would be very careful about any type of herbs/supplements that you take as several of them can actually cause us more harm then good. I have made that mistake before and it was horrible. You never ever want to take anything that boosts the immune system which means avoiding immune boosting supplements like Airborne, echinacea/golden seal, grapeseed extract, etc. The last thing we want to do is boost our immune system. As for foods...did you say you read that tomato, potatoe, nightshades, etc are NOT BAD for lupus? If so, the place you found that information from is not correct. These things have been shown to exacerbate or cause flare ups and should be avoided. I have also made this mistake before and got extremely sick with a flare up from eating BEETS for 4 days. Not everything you read on line is correct or safe. The best place to get the proper info on foods/supplements/herbs is to ask your rheumy about taking them before you try them. Most likely they will say NOT to take them. Some can actually be toxic for us. Some people do fine taking certain herbs/supplements/diets while others dont. It all depends on how your body reacts to these things.
You mentioned the anti caking ingredient in the salt which made me think HMMMMMM. That is possible because I just realized that any time I eat something with MSG in it I get a hot flush, red skin and a racing heart. Maybe you should stop eating that salt and buy a natural kind without anything extra in it and see if that makes a difference. The peas and cucumbers shouldnt typically cause a lupus reaction and it doesnt happen instantly (usually). This sounds more like an allergic reaction to something and you may have figured it out. The salt! Keep us posted on what the dr. says and hope you are doing better. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE speak with your dr. first before trying any supplements. I dont want you to go thru the same thing I did making myself sick as a dog from something I was told (not by dr.s) would be helpful.

I have posted a Science Daily article previously that shows pictures of NETS that are created in a lupus patients bloodstream because they lack the enzyme DNase 1. DNase 1 is an enzyme found in the pancreas. It's job is to break down DNA and proteins BEFORE they enter the blood in addition to degrading any leftover cellular debris in the bloodstream. If you would like to see a picture of this, you can go to Yahoo and type in "Rescue Nets for Lupus Patients." It talks about this enzyme in the last paragraph.
The lack of this enzyme has been shown in studies from around to world to be a causative factor in lupus. For instance, when this enzyme is removed in mice, the mice developed lupus. In fact, every single symptom of lupus can be traced back to this missing enzyme. Just name a symptom and I will demonstrate.
