This happens to me too. I overheat really easily...if I have been walking outside, or eating something spicy, drinking something hot, walk into a room that is a few degrees above what I am used to, in a brightly lit shop, etc....my pulse starts to race, I sweat, I start to ache and I get really, really dizzy and shaky. Although my rheumy is very dismissive of these symptoms - he seems to think that it's all in my head - especially the dizziness which he blames on stress (I don't believe that to be the case at all). So I too would be really interested to hear if this is 'normal'!! :)

I think lupies are sensitive to any type of change in temperature whether it be hot or cold. I get sick if I am too hot and sick when I am too cold. I am hating this change in whether it is killing my joints and giving me bad headaches. And my raynards!!! I do not get sick from spicy foods or hot drinks but I do get sick from coffee. I think we just do not have the tolerance for heat or cold that healthy people do. I hope you feel better soon. Best wishes and gentle hugs.

Having lupus, im over here in Ca , and we had a heat wave , i had a flare up, which landed me in the hospital for a week. so the weather has a lot to do with it.

I agree with the others. Heat intolerance is a big one for me. Cant take hot showers/jacuzzis/baths, hot rooms make me feel sick, and so does flourescent lighting (a big one). It never happens though when I drink or eat anything hot (temp. wise) and I dont eat spicy food. It may be one of those weird things that just makes you feel bad that you will learn to avoid as much as possible. I use to LOVE to shop and try on clothes and now its torture for me. I can maybe try on one item before I start to feel sick. It may get a bit better if your on plaquenil but mine hasnt at all. It does help some people with this issue.

Another possibility is that you don't have lupus, but have Stills disease. That LOOKS like lupus in so many ways, but patients are very heat sensitive instead of sun sensitive.

Make sure your docs test you for a complement series (it should be low) and an anti-DSdna. If you have the right values, then you have lupus in all likelihood. However, if you have a high complement, then you might have Stills. Stills is rare (1 in 100,000) so docs often diagnose it as lupus because lupus is so much more common.
