When my skin bothers me, I use coconut oil, sometimes several times a day. It's cooling and soothing, at least for me. If you try it and don't like it, you can then use the coconut oil for baking and cooking.

Thanks nanny1611. I will give coconut oil a try for my soreness - I have noticed coconut seems to be a sudden health food smash hit. My sister who is into health foods big time makes some chocolate balls with coconut oil!

The chocolate balls sound yummy. I've never used coconut oil for that purpose. Might have to find a recipe online or at Pinterest. Hope the coconut oil works for you as well as it works for me. BTW, just recently I read an article stating that consumption of coconut oil is good for alzheimer's patients. Don't know if it's true, but it's interesting.

The alzheimer's part is interesting. Maybe it will help with my brain fog/ memory issues!

Hi, sorry to hear your suffering with your skin I know it can be awful. I've had lupus for 14 yrs ( I'm only 30) and although suffer greatly with lupus attacking and destroying virtually every joint and organ until recently only really suffered with skin a few times which resulted in a rash that broke open. However, your entry caught my eye as recently my skin is sooo bad! Like yourself firstly in started out as pimples and a rash which is not a typical lupus rash. I was in hospital at the time due to lupus and my dermatologist was called. I was told they did not know what had caused the rash which had stead over both calfs at this point yet did know it was somehow due to lupus. However, as this started to clear weeks later my feet were affected and within days I literally had no skin on my feet. Like yourself the pain is excruciating. They eventually scab over but the moment I put my feet on the floor they split , bleed, pus leeks from them and the pain is incredibly bad. The only thing that helps with the initial pain is Elma cream however , I'm not sure if this is advisable so pls ask your doc first, then to help skin heal I use both aloe Vera or coconut oil cream. I hope you get it sorted soon and pls let us know what works as I rarely hear people say about their skin hurting as much, good luck x

P.s I really am sure emla cream is not advisable for open sores the only reason I have it is for a different condition but as you probably understand when the pain is that bad you will do anything but as it is a prescribed cream and as said am sure you cannot use on open sores pls pls check with doc first. As it does eventually numb the area it stings like crazy when first applied but I grit my teeth, scream a little ( lol) as I know it will stop the pain for a while. I'm sure if you explain to your doc there must be a cream that he can prescribe to numb the pain so you can at least wash your hair. I know this sounds disgusting but like yourself washing my hair (I say hair I've lost it due to chemo and similar treatments) but shampooing my head and bit of hair that's grown like yourself stung so much I couldn't do it again so used a flannel everyday and tried to wash it that way. Coconut oil and aloe Vera are really good but if you've open sores personally don't feel they get rid of pain with sores that are open but would recommend using these creams to prevent any more probs.as I said in prev post pls let us know how you get on as I've looked on Internet and cannot find anything not sure if that's as in looking for sores in feet but your post is first I've seen that has although not exactly same still when you mentioned sores on your head it rang a bell. Again. Hope you improve ASAP x

I would call the dermatologist asap. I have had both rosacea and warts that fit this description. Because of lupus, skin conditions need to be biopsied and treated aggressively. It's best not to try and self-diagnose a new condition. Hope this helps.

Drop in and see your Doctor, if you are just on Plaquinil, it may need the dose upping or indeed changing to another treatment (this happened to me so I am still on Plaquinil, but also take Neoral). You may also need some steroid cream to get the skin condition under control. It may, of course, not be Lupus.....regrettably, one autoimmune disease can lead to the discovery of another. I have SLE, Psoriatic Arthritis, and a couple of other more minor conditions, so rather than try and battle it on your own....make that appointment...yeah it's a drag, but get this sorted before it gets any worse. You may also be getting more sun/light exposure than you think. Hope you feel better soon.

I wanted to respond to the discussion about the little red blisters (sores) on the head. I have never had them on my feet as was mentioned and therefore cannot speak to that part, but I get them all the time all over my head. They didn't start until I had a bout with Shingles in 2007. After the Shingles were subsiding, I noticed these bumps coming up just above the nape of my neck. Now they appear almost daily all over my head and I have had several on my face and I have recently found a couple below my shoulders and one on my right leg. They are very painful (like a Shingle and blistery) so I associated them with the Shingles. Do any of you who have this phenomena recall whether you had a case of Shingles around the time you noticed them?

I mentioned them to my rheumie, but he did not say anything to me about them. On my last visit he asked if I was still getting rashes and I said yes. I believe I have Lupus, but at the present time I only have a dx for primary Sjogren's 7 years. I have not read anything about Sjogren's causing this type of thing.

I've been to the doctor. He can see it isn't acne. I am a picker so he has started me on antibiotics in the hopes that will fix it. I know he thinks it has to do with lupus but wants to try the less severe possibility first.

I don't believe this is an infection at all but am taking the antibiotics anyway. There is no "pus"- just clear fluid in these blisters. I have actually had some quite big ones now like the size you would get on your foot from shoes too small however they are not quite as "full" as those blisters.

I had a bout of vasculitis last year on my feet and the doctor did mention this could be the same thing. I so very much hope not :(. Vasculitis SUCKS!

Everything hurts to put on my face. Even 99% pure aloe vera. Thanks for all of your replies and advice. I'm so sorry that you are also having skin troubles. I think a visit to the dermatologist is in my future. Anyone ever have a skin biopsy on their face?? I am hoping that does not have to happen. One I had on my arm scarred!

Just wanted to mention regarding shingles that they are always on only one side of the body - ie only on the left or only on the right. Knowing this can at least help rule them out....

I have lupus and you do get iritating rashes etc I have dealt with them also. But just wondering if anyone gets a hot prickly feeling like pins and needles on their face and arms and neck? My daughter and I get it alot esp when we are flared up. I put cold rags on my face but it hurts to touch it drs havent really given us an answer. I hope everyone feels better soon! Sue

Sounds so much like rosacea, esp the pimples with clear blisters And the central redness on the face. Also the skin can get very tender and sensative. Go to a dermatologist. They sometimes use tetracycline to decrease the inflammation.
