Lupus is an auto-immune disease in which the immune system cannot distinguish between threats (like viruses and bacteria), and healthy cells and tissue. As a result, the body produces antibodies that inflict cell damage, most commonly targeting joints, skin, kidneys and the nervous system. Join the group and find support for coping with lupus.

We are a group of doctors dedicated to helping people online in a way to help with high health care costs. The idea is to give a resource to people that need alternative opinions and information. There are a lot of people that have limited access to health care (either uninsured, simply can't afford it, or have to wait to long to be able to get in to see the doctor). This way it is easier for a smaller number of physicians to help a larger number of people.
Dr. Shanahan is the doctor. He is board certified Rheumatology and trained at Duke University.

PS- Just had my MRI.....I have to pay 700.00 for it and that is WITH our insurance....I was speechless....
I might check it out as well, right now I am paying $158 per visit to my pain clinic, again with insurance, this is my portion. I've been going every 3 weeks. Just like any of you I'm sure I can't afford $158 every 3 weeks.
There is also a new site I believe put out there by the LFA, it's called "Could I have Lupus" It has some good information, individuals that are keeping diaries that you can read their first hand situations and a board much like this for members to chat. I've been there a couple of times and read the info, it just started this week, but looks like it may be a goood source of support and info as well. http://couldihavelupus.gov/speakout.php
