Lupus is an auto-immune disease in which the immune system cannot distinguish between threats (like viruses and bacteria), and healthy cells and tissue. As a result, the body produces antibodies that inflict cell damage, most commonly targeting joints, skin, kidneys and the nervous system. Join the group and find support for coping with lupus.
One of the things I hate most about having a flare is the pressure it puts on the relationships with the people I love. I started flaring again about 3 weeks ago and I just don't feel like my boyfriend or family are being that understanding. Has anyone had any success with explaining what its like living with lupus to family and friends who have no idea?

Copy or link it into emails and send it to your friends, family, co-workers, etc. It helps explain what you are going through. Not looking sick makes people think you're being ridiculous. I guess you could put dark circles under your eyes so they get it. :)
