I also have very itchy skin most of the time. My rheumy told me that lupus can cause hives, which is what I have. When they're "mild" they're not even red. Just itchy. Sometimes little swollen bumps. I take claritin every day when they are acting up. Benadryl did not help me at all. Also, very hot water in the shower helps a lot.

Thank you so much bluebird, its always nice to know we are not crazy lol, I do water aerobics as many times a week as my lupus will allow and I know that drys me out but I do take a hot shower as soon as I get out of the pool. The water aerobics is the best thing I have done for myself in along time. Being sick you know there is not alot you can do for excersize (sp), but the water makes it so much easier, I would love to just live there lol, there is no pain or aches in the water, I recommend it to everyone with lupus, it has helped my back and balance soooo much, again thanks and love to ya

I too deal with itchy skin, but unfortunately mine is not due to dry skin. It is because of issues I have with lupus affecting my liver. Apparently when the liver is not functioning properly this happens. All I know is that it is a horrible, horrible thing, the itch is so deep you can not relieve it. My rheumy called in some Atarax, which is suppose to take that sension away, but it doesn't work.

Last night I was itching so bad I thought I would go out of my mind, seriously. It gets so intense it wakes me up out of a dead sleep sometimes then I cannot go back to sleep. Last night I tried everything. The atarax, benadryl, but oddly enough the thing that seemed to help most was rubbing ice on my skin! I was truly at my witts end and decided to give it a try to see if I could get some relief.

I'm not sure what type of itch you have, you can definitely tell the difference, this is truly an itch that comes from the bone. Either way, I know it can be miserable.

I don't know what type of meds you are on, but many times they can cause issues with the liver as well. If you have not had a liver profile done, you may ask your doc about one so you can be sure it is not an issue with your liver, if you think it's more than dry skin that is.

Hi girls, I so sympathize with all of you. I have had this horrible itching since Feb. I have been to every kind of dr. I can think of. I still don't know if I have Lupus, but I sure have a lot of the symptoms. I have had many tests for all kinds of stuff and nothing says positive. I DID finally find a dermatologist that gave me an ointment that works for me!!!!!!!!!!!! I had tried sooooo many, but this one is called CLOBETASOL PROPIONATE OINTMENT USP, 0.05% It has been my saving grace. I have been on plaquenil now for going on two months. I was getting better, but I am headed down hill again. I love water aerobics, it helped me so much, I haven't been able to get in the water for almost a year. I was clearing up so well, last week, I decided to try it again. It seemed to go okay, so I got in the hottub here at our home that had bromine like stuff for people with sensative skin and now my skin is sore again and I am itching. Along with all of this I have developed terrible food allergy's. I am losing weight, but this isn't the way to do it.
I feel like a complete mess. I thought I had it whipped.
I am back to showering and moisterizing right away and putting on this ointment. God bless all of you, I know the heck you are going through!!!!1

thanks again all, I have a liver test every 3 months and its fine, I think this must be from the lupus or just dry skin, I have so many reactions to anything I put on my skin that I have tried a new lotion, that is made here in Utah and the Drs. here use it on there patients, it is called Stevens, no perfume or anything and its helping, happy Thanksgiving to all
