I posted this question on the Sjogren's site as well, since that is my other problem.....have any of you had to have a functional ability test in order to be approved for disability?

My doctor will not approve disability or reduced work schedule until I have this done. I work full time three 12 hour shifts a week in a busy ER. I am exhausted, my joints hurt and sometimes the brain fog scares me because I am afraid I will make a critical medication error.

I have not had this done because I have been a stay at home mommy for almost 13 years and got sick in those years. BUT I did write about disability and lupus on my blog here is a link I hope it helps there is a ton of info, phone numbers, and websites to help plus lots of lupus info. OMG, have you told the Dr. about the brain fog??? I am a disabled critical care nurse and would not even attempt to administer medications to anyone else with my level of brain fog, confusion, forgetfullness, poor concentration. I, daily cannot remember if I have taken my own meds....it is scary.....I know what you mean. I am ready to stop driving due to 4 auto accidents and a house fire all in 4 years.........concentration issues........
Have you let your dr. know of your concern on this particular matter?
I wish you much luck with the disability issue. It takes understanding doctors and a lot of time.

Thank you for the responses. I have explained everything to my doctor and his nurse. I didnt even ask to take me off work, just get me out of patient care and reduced hours. If i harm a patient it is going to completely throw me over the edge.
The worst part about it is that it took me a long time to face up to the fact that i am a danger because i love my job and i worked hard for this and now that i have had the courage and strength to get past my own pride i am not beindg taken seriously!!!

I had the test done about 8 yrs ago. There is a long list of physical tasks that you are asked to perform, and lots of questions to answer. How long can you stand in one place? How many steps can you climb? How far can you walk?It was given by a Physical Therapist at a place chosen by Disability. Hope this helps
