The Lupus Foundation of America is launching a new campaign to educate more people about Lupus. They are driving a big bus around the country to talk to patients, doctors, and family members about the disease and petitioning congress to help with research.

This is SO needed! I was in a hospital once, being treated for something else. I asked the doctor to please give me an anti-inflammatory instead of a narcotic pain pill. I explained that I had lupus and the pain pills don't help as much at the anti-inflammaries. He literally told me that lupus is not real! He refused to give me even an aleve!

The nurse pulled me aside and told me that he didn't believe in migraines, lupus or fibromyalgia because he had gone to medical school so many years ago before any of those dx were understood. He was an old fart who didn't keep up with modern medicine.

I have experienced several other doctors who were equally ignorant. One doctor, I told him I had auto-immune disease problems and he said, "Auto-immune... what's what?"
