YES!!! I have experienced this mostly in my legs and feet...A burning sensation in my skin/tissues/muscles. Like they are on fire. Mine last for hours sometimes and is worse when I am laying down. I attribute it to inflamation during a flare up as I never have had this symptom until my recent severe flare up this past year. Once I started prednison, it almost completely went away, but now it is starting to come back here and there.

Have you been tested for MS or Neuropathy? I know that neuropathy can cause a burning sensation in the calves and feet. My dad has it and he explains it as someone sticking a hot metal poker into his legs/feet. You may want to mention this to your dr. to rule out anything else that could cause this. I saw a neurologist who did numerous tests and said that I didnt have MS, but I do have slight neuropathy. I personally think its the inflamation from my APS and Lupus. See if you can make an appointment with a neurologist. They would be the ones to figure out if this is a nerve/brain issue.

Yep, that kind of pain, that burining feeling is neurological pain. Your nerve endings in that area are acting up.

I see, Beautiijunkii that you are in Escondido (near San Diego). It might be worth the trouble to drive up to Los Angeles and see Dr. Wallace. He is THE lupus expert (though his bedside manner isn't always terrific and he's not perfect and makes mistakes like anyone else), but when it comes to lupus, he literally wrote the books.

Back to your burning sensation: it could also be a pre-shingles thing. Shingles patches burn and tingle BEFORE the blisters pop up. Have you had the chicken pox? Or had shingles before? In this case, either you'll get blisters (meaning it's shingles) or you won't (meaning it's neuralgia).

Yes i have also, just as you said like someone is holding a lighter to my legs, but mine is in my calfs and thighs sometimes last weeks, makes it hard to hold still and hard to sleep at night, drives you crazy huh!! I still dont know what it is, part of lupus i guess?? Hope you get to feeling better.Maybe its shingles like Tracey said? Cindi

Yeah, it drives me nuts and it does make it hard to sleep cuz I can't stop moving my legs. ARGH!

I was thinking it sounded like neuropathy but since you mentioned you can't stop moving your legs, you might want to check out restless leg syndrome. I have had muscle aches for 11 years and had no idea it was RLS. It impacts a lot of people differently but one of the common themes is moving your legs around incessently trying to get relief. I have painful RLS almost all of the time but the medication has made some improvement which is the first one ever! No pain medicine ever made a significant difference. Unfortunately, there is no test yet to see if you have it so I think they usually just have to try the medicine and see if it makes a difference. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy, it is a horrible thing to go through day after day.

My palms of my hands burn then they start itching. This has been going on for awhile now and no one can tell me why. I hope your not in to much pain.

I know this is an older discussion, but, I would really like to open it back up to anyone having the burning muscle problem. Mine will wake me up at night with severe tingling in my arms from the elbow down to the hands and my legs from the knees down to my toes. I am kind of lethargic with shallow breathing. It can last anywhere from a few minutes to 30 mins. If I try to get up I feel uncoordinated...so I don't get up! I just keep taking deep breaths and eventually I fall back to sleep. It happens more often when I am in some kind of a flare....I have a new rheumy and I didn't want to tell her all the "weird stuff" until I knew I had some credibility. I do use a CPAP as I have upper airway resistance syndrome-basically that means my airway is small and I don't get enough oxygen. I HIGHLY suggest to anyone who thinks they might have sleep apnea to get tested. Prior to the CPAP I was falling asleep during the day much more ....doesn't totally eliminate fatigue, but, it does help. Hope you all are having a good day. Mjo

I get the hot spots on my feet and calves mostly. It's an odd sensation and sometimes I actually look to see if there is something I'm unaware of that is burning me it is so intense. My husband, who has RA, also gets this sensation. It eventually goes away, but we both plan to mention it at our appointment this month.

I also have burning sensations (followed by rashes), anywhere exposed to the sun. Also, I feel flushed/sweaty during this time.
