UTI

I have a quick question...as of last night I have had to make frequent bathroom visits...like every 20-30 minutes. This is really not normal for me..I'm wondering if maybe I have a UTI. I also have been having a dull ache in my lower back for the last couple of days. I'm really concerned because I don't want to have to deal with this on top of my other aches and pains. I've had a UTI once before but it was before I was dx. It really doesn't have the funny smell that comes with having one but I'm not sure if the meds I'm one prevents that. what should I do...please help!!

the last one I had was before dx too, I remember there was some burning too. I drank a ton of cranberry juice right away and that seemed to nip it in the bud. You can buy cranberry supplements if you don't want to drink the juice but it helps to flush out your bladder. I hope you feel better soon.

Hi!

I used to get that about 2 times a year , nasty! Was dx with Lupus in the fall of 08. Since being on meds etc. I have only experienced it once so far. With one of the meds, I am to drink alot of water, I do drink cranberry juice and take showers, not baths. I also noticed with the weight gain, I have had to get looser fitting pants. So far so good, had urine and blood test done all is ok.

What a quencidence. I haven't had a UTI in years, but last week I went to the doc because I had a migraine, needed a shot. When I was there she asked me to run some labs because she didn't think it was a normal migraine for me, I had the chills and was shaking. She called me back and told me I have a UTI. I've been on antibotics for 6 days, still no better.

Thank you for all of your replies!! Mel..so your headache was a result of your UTI? I've had this terrible headche for about two days now but never would have thought it was related....I just bought a jug cranberry juice...hopefully this helps!!! This is not a pleasant feeling!!

I've noticed that I've been going a lot more too. So much that I wake up every hour or two and have to rush to the bathroom. I also have had a painful feeling in my kidney area. I have had frequent kidney infections zso I was very concerned. I talked to my dr during one of my appts and she did a urien test that showed nothing. She couldn't explain the frequent urination and said that if I am having any kind of back pain it could show up anywhere in my sides. I think I would do jjust as you are and try the juice and see if it works. I hope you feel better soon. My prayers are with you. -Kim

amethystchic: I'm sorry to hear that you're having troubles. It certainly doesn't sound like much fun. What meds are you currently taking? Also, what's your "official" lupus diagnosis and how long ago were you diagnosed?

Hi Ryan...thanks for the concern...I was diagnosed with SLE in 2008....I am currently taking Cellcept and Plaquenil....

Painful/frequent urination is one of the potential side effects when dealing with heavy immunosuppressants like cellcept. It has to do with the toxic form the drug takes on after having been metabolized and then dumped into the bladder for excretion.

When was your last UA/CBC done? it wouldn't hurt to get in contact with your doc to see if you can get one done now to get a sort of snapshot and ensure this isn't the precursor to something nastier.
