Surgical Recovery

My husband recently had the upper lobe of his right lung removed. The doctors informed us that his breathing would not be impeded. That seems hard to believe since his lung capacity has been diminished.

Good morning,

I had the upper left lobe removed with the VATS procedure in April 09. Further, I had 14 lymphs removed. Today, I have better O2 Sats then I did with the lobe, I am concentrated at 100%. Perhaps with time, his too will compensate for his loss. One day at a time...

I had my left lung removed and for the most part my breathing is normal. I have a little trouble walking and talking at the same time without getting winded, and if I climb stairs, but any one who met me would never know I have one lung. I had some help from pulmonary rehab too (I did this about 7 months after my surgery when my chemo and radiation were done). In pulmonary rehab, a respiratory therapist monitors you and helps you exercise and build up your ability to tolerate activity. I wish you and your husband well during his recovery.
