Mom is a fighter & has recovered from three Chemo & Radiation treatments over the past seven years. I was told today that she might be able to care for herself for a few more weeks & then Hospice would have to be there to help care for her. I want to take care of her & am willing to quit my job & move back home to do it. I don't want Mom to be with strangers. She told me today that she is ready to go & she is so tired of fighting the pain. She's down to 94 lbs & has no appetite anymore. I feel powerless & although I'm not ready to let Mom go I think it's time to allow her to die w/ dignity. She's my best friend & has always been there for me through everything & I just want to give something back.
I would not allow your mom to be alone in the hospital or at home with hospice. They care to the minimum and your mom may need care that she only feels comfortable allowing you do do. And, sometimes when they know a patient is terminal...they just don't do as much. Fight for your mom's rights...fight to make sure she has her pain medication...I did and my heart know I did everything in my power to make her as comfortble as possible. If your employer is caring...they will have your job for you when you return. Mine wasn't...I didn't want to be with heartless people so I left...yes, even after 10 hardworking years as a supervisor!
