Long Distance Relationships (LDR) Support Group
This community is a place where you can share your long distance challenges and triumphs, vent, give long distance tips and ideas, or just get support from people like you who are going through the same thing. Whether you live a couple hours away or a couple continents away, the specific challenges that face a long distance relationship are unique and difficult.
I question every day if it's worth it. I don't know yet and I wonder all the time if its real or a fantasy. We're 5 hours in time difference, different continents and it's hard to just connect by computer, phone, or txt.
It's just a really hard situation to live and I don't know yet if I made the right choice or how long I can hang in there.
I've been single for a few years and sometimes I think that's better than waiting, & waiting some more. Then again maybe we just don't communicate as often as my needs dictate, so many thoughts and no answers.
I tried like hell to stay around and wait for him after I graduated. But I graduated in December 2007, right when the economy fell apart. Nobody was hiring. Mind you, we were in a town where the job market stinks even in a decent economy. I tried for about a year and a half to cobble together enough hours from temp and part-time jobs to get by, while applying feverishly for something better.
I was pretty much having a nervous breakdown. I was having three and four panic attacks a day. I was unfaithful, never technically cheated but we did break up. Never stopped seeing each other completely, I was the one going around and hurting him. This is just one more way in which he is incredibly kind and understanding. He somehow knew that this, too, was just a manifestation of how the stress was eating me alive.
I accepted that there was no opportunity of the sort I needed there, and I needed to branch out. I was not getting by, choosing between food and heat bills or rent. On the verge of homelessness. I applied for jobs within a 5-hour radius of home, and Indy is where I got the offer, so this is where I came. Zach and I got back together about a month after I came up here. I could finally relax and I became myself again. We talk several times a day, see each other about once a month, and basically it's the most inconvenient thing I've ever done. But we want each other more than we want convenience.
I'm also a member of the Depression support group, and I've finally decided to seek professional help to make sure that no matter what happens, I hopefully will not sink so low again. He inspires me to be a stronger and better person than I knew I could be.
It has crossed my mind that if the guy in Canada was here, he could have swooped me first. Because I thought that long distance relationship is really hard. Then it is what I end up with still.
I met him in NJ when I was doing an Internship. Then the internship finished and we have been in touch -close to each day- since January.
I have Bipolar Disorder Type I. He has been very understandable and very warm with my mood swings.
He is part of my life although we are miles far away...
I really met someone in a prophetic dream a long time ago. We had a long distance relationship of a strange kind.
But currently, when it rains it pours.....I have a few special people I have been in relationships with for years and one for months. You see sometimes its hard to know if the compassion for someone's suffering makes the heart confused. Is it love? Compassion? The need to save someone?
It's very hard when someone is in another country. It's a nightmare to think about calling if someone is 9 hours away. It's sometimes hurts more than it feels good.
It can also be scary because what if one of you dont feel "it" once you meet. So many expectations and then none at all. He says he is coming to visit in September. I don't tend to believe miracles happen very much so my view is skewed to the point where sometimes I don't believe he loves me.
Other times, it's just friggin hard to be in love with a ghost on a screen. It's also delightful at the same time.
I love so many people because Im never sure if I love just one I'll get hurt. If that makes sense.
We will see how this incredible conversational coorespondance continues to heat up.
I visited her for nine days a few months ago and got engaged. We have had our ups and downs, but there has never been any doubt about where we were heading. While it is very difficult being so far apart, this by far has been the most rewarding relationship I have had...ever!
