What Type Of Loneliness?

I'm new to this group, but I have a question What type of loneliness is the subject of this group? I suffer from dysthymia disorder. This makes it difficult for me to establish emotional connections to people. Yet, a part of me desires such relationships as I've seen what effect they have on others. It gives them a strength I don't possess. The strange thing is people seem extremely comfortable talking with me. Maybe I'm more of a sounding board to them.

As for the other type of loneliness, I've never been in a dating relationship. While I'm attracted to women and my father wants me to marry, I think I'd make a terrible husband and father. I don't have a job and no prospects on the horizon. Thus, I've purposely been picky as to what type of women I find attractive to push the possibility out of the way. Maybe that's why most of people that I mentioned above who talk to me are women as that so-called tension is out of the way.

Welcome to the group. I wouldn't say that this group is geared towards any specific type of loneliness. For me, I'm lonely because I have no close friends to share the joys and sorrows of life, no one to go to a movie with, no one to play catch with, etc. Others may be on here because their loneliness is more of a "romantic" nature...meaning that they are longing for that special person who they could be in a relationship with. Others maybe have friends, but still have feelings of loneliness...even in a room full of people.

So please continue to share your struggles with loneliness and there is sure someone in the group who can relate to you.

Yes agree with getfuzzy, we all have our reasons for loneliness, for me its lack of family, family has let me down most of my life, and really not fitting into mainstream society though I do have an active social life and a good group of friends - I don't even want to fit into the mainstream - I just know I'm different, and at the same time that I like it, it does set me apart and I can't always connect as well as I would like.

Sounds like romantic loneliness. If so, what can I say, no risk, no reward. Embrace the fear, search for your heart, and put it into the ladies. Eventually somebody will put her heart back into you.

I am lonely because I was forced to retire from teaching school which I loved. I live in a small town and there is nothing to do. My friends seem all busy with their own lives and I have no family close by. My husband loves being retired and enjoys living in this small town. We live far from any people or neighbors...he enjoys being alone...I hate being alone. I am often depressed because I have nothing meaningful to do with my life.

I think this support group will be a good fit for you.

My loneliness come from my lack of close friends, family, or a girlfriend. The people that are in my life mostly don't even seem to understand me. I have problems, I admit that but I just wish people would try to be more understanding and show some form of caring about me and not just talk to me to ask me for help with their own problems.

Yeah...such a fine species, the human animal...each individual embroiled in their own struggle for survival and out for themselves...did it ever occur to selfish people that if we SHARED our struggles, our own struggle would be less?

Well koolman, that is a concept of Christianity. Although sometimes pressed to find the right Christian family that abides by it. Easier to find handouts if you are dirt dirt poor,(take note to the double dirt - lol) But even that with strings attached.

Welcome J, like the others said, anyone, feeling any type of lonliness. We have married people with children, who still feel lonely.

    I recently heard a great 2007 song the other day, "Falling Slowly" because it popped up in my newsfeed, accompanied by the sad news that the  male singer, Glen Hansard, just died in a motorcycle accident.  I learned that the song won an award and was featured in an indie movie called Once. I just watched it, and it's really good.  They made it in 3 weeks on a $100,000 budget. It's streaming on...
