Loneliness Support Group
Loneliness is an emotional state in which a person experiences a powerful feeling of emptiness and isolation. Loneliness is more than the feeling of wanting company or wanting to do something with another person. Loneliness is a feeling of being cut off, disconnected and alienated from other people. Lets start with that.
Also... I tend to check out the community calendar looking for new events to go to
Make a 5 minute phone call to someone.
Go for a stroll and make it a point to smile at as many people as possible on your path. There will be at least a few people that will smile back at you.
Take up volunteering. Volunteering has been my sanctuary when I am feeling lonely sometimes. Not only do you get to be around and meet different people, but you also get a better sense of self and accomplishment by contributing your time to help others.
I also here that, just like AA, there are groups such as EA (emotions anonymous) where others get together and share their stories. I tried it once, they style/format didn't fit me personally, but I thought it was a nice way to help others and there were people there who genuinely were appreciative of the group.
Go to a museum, a bookstore, a lecture. While you may not be personally connecting with many there, you can still be surrounded by people with a similar interest in reading, history etc. That makes you feel you arent the only one in the world who appreciates these things.
MEETUP.COM is a WONDERFUL tool for getting out. Most people who go to these events are meeting for the first time and, like you, looking for a way to get out and connect with others. It has definitely helped me and while I have yet to make any deep connections (which I aspire to have more of), I have met people who I occasionally see at meetups and enjoy their company.
And if all else fails, you have us here at DS.
