Loneliness Support Group
Loneliness is an emotional state in which a person experiences a powerful feeling of emptiness and isolation. Loneliness is more than the feeling of wanting company or wanting to do something with another person. Loneliness is a feeling of being cut off, disconnected and alienated from other people. The lonely person may find it difficult or even impossible to have any...
Though for me, as life went on, I guess, I realized that life was going to be what I made it and not what someone else might. There would be no "soul mate" coming my way. Maybe she did enter my life at some point and I just missed the clues?
In any case, enjoy the life you have for yourself. If someone is to be part of that life, whether it be your ex or someone you have yet to meet, enjoy what your life today for what you can make of it.
I have met several potential friends who wanted to come over just to sit there in my house going on and on for hours about how they wished they were dead or how miserable they are. Either they need to see a good therapist first before they start trying to make relationships or they need to start being more positive. Some of them need to look at their lives and work out what should be changed and what can be changed and then change it.
I don't agree that we all get opportunities all the time to make new friends. There are people who are totally housebound whose whole social life is online. It is sad but they can either see the glass as half empty or half full. I know of people who are totally housebound and have nobody yet are cheerful and make the most of things. Then you have others who shun people and hate people yet look for someone - like a shining knight on a horse - to come along. But not because they want to love someone, just because they want that guy to love them and take care of them. One sided relationships never work. Either the other person will not even be enticed by it or it gradually dwindles off into nothing.
A month ago I met a lady who was 80, quite fat, frumpy, plain and very poor, she had no real personality and was a typical ordinary old lady. Yet she is constantly looking for a HANDSOME, RICH,
guy with a great job and a flashy red sports car. The fantasy keeps her going but one day she will have to face the fact that such a guy would be looking for a woman who is much younger than her, much more sorted than her, much less needy than her.
I found it was impossible to make friends locally as I am disabled and have problems getting out AND when I did manage to get to any local groups or clubs (with the help of a service our area offers to disabled and old people to get them about) all the people there were about eighty years of age - much older than me, with nothing in common with me. I became very disillusioned and sad.
But being a pro active person I was determined to find a way to make things better for myself so I advertised in the local paper.
I still do. I met a very nice lady yesterday thanks to this advert.
Many of those who reply are duds, either losers who are expecting me to give them a job or "lend" them money or something, but there is always that one diamond in the mud here and there that makes it worth it. I have also chatted to some wonderful nice people on this site who I am very grateful to have met.
