Loneliness Support Group
Loneliness is an emotional state in which a person experiences a powerful feeling of emptiness and isolation. Loneliness is more than the feeling of wanting company or wanting to do something with another person. Loneliness is a feeling of being cut off, disconnected and alienated from other people. The way you describe it, it sounds like you almost purposely wanted to work Fridays and Saturdays as if you were subconciusly avoiding something.
Now that you have this free time you feel like you need to fill your schedule up like you did before. Try something different this time. Don't fall back into an older way of life if it does you no good to be there. I'm not saying you should forget your friends-you shouldn't if they make a difference to you, but maybe some of those who you called friends weren't really your friends after all. It's up to you to decide.
If you want to make new friends and meet people you can do it. Do you feel there is something holding you back from engaging people? Some emotional issue perhaps?
Anyway, I do sometimes feel sad because I feel like I'm missing out on a lot of fun, but, I try and make it up in other ways. For example, just this Friday my friends were having a big party in the evening, but of course I was working (and need to avoid alcohol anyway) so I couldn't come. So instead, I spent the whole day with my friends, having coffee, walking round the city - then left about 7pm before they'd started drinking.
You can do this too, make an effort to see friends at another time. It doesn't really matter when you see your friends - I used to feel sometimes too that I was such a loser if I didn't go out on Friday or Saturday night, but it really doesn't matter. You may just have to go to a bit of effort to make other times to catch up with your friends. Good luck.
