Loneliness Support Group
Loneliness is an emotional state in which a person experiences a powerful feeling of emptiness and isolation. Loneliness is more than the feeling of wanting company or wanting to do something with another person. Loneliness is a feeling of being cut off, disconnected and alienated from other people. The lonely person may find it difficult or even impossible to have any...
Welcome to Daily Strength! I'm happy you have found us and hope that you find this site to be a helpful place where you can get support and different perspectives and advice.
I can only imagine how hurtful it feels to not feel accepted by others. That must've felt so painful to be kicked out of the meetup group, and to feel you are being treated poorly by your friend. I feel your sadness. I just want to assure you that the way you have been treated is not a reflection of you, but says more about the people who have treated you unkindly. It is unfortunate that some people struggle to be accepting and kind to others, but please do not let that break your spirit or believe that you are not worthy of love and belonging. We are ALL, as human beings, worthy of love, and you are no exception.
I, too, struggle with loneliness and making friends, so I am perhaps not the best person to offer you advice. I would encourage you to keep pursuing the meetup groups, even though I am sure it is difficult because of the negative experience you had. What sorts of hobbies do you have? What interests you? I would encourage you to seek out groups with people who share similar interests.
Have you ever thought of volunteering? Volunteering is a great way to give back to the community and help others, but is also a great way to meet like-minded individuals.
I also just want to point out that so many people would love to have a great relationship with their parents, and it sounds like you do! I think that is really special that you spend a lot of time with them and feel close to them. Cherish those relationships and focus on helping them grow.
I think it is really easy to get the impression that as teenagers/young adults, we need to have a ton of friends to be happy. In reality, all we really need are a few close relationships with people who love, accept, and understand us. I can sense you have so much love to give, and anyone would be lucky to have you as a friend. Keep putting yourself out there, and always remember to be yourself and take pride in who you are. None of us is perfect, but we are all unique individuals with much to offer this world. You have a lot to offer and will find others who appreciate how wonderful you are.
Also, I sent you a friend request on here. I'd love to be friends :)
Welcome!
I have some understanding of what you are going through. My older son has learning disabilities. This was discovered in kindergarten. He went from one program in school to another until we found the right one. It gave him a chance to have an almost normal high school experience and he graduated successfully. This was ten years ago. He has been working since then for a big grocery store here, and is quite happy with that career. He lives with his mother, and since he can't pass the drivers test, he rides the bus to work. I do remember him having issues with acceptance in school from the 'normal' students, but he never let it bother him. He is accepted at his job though. He has such a great personality that many customers try to get into his line at the checkout! When I go somewhere with him, we almost always run into someone he knows from the store, and they have nice words for him.
So don't let your disability or peoples' acceptance get you down. If you are positive and pleasant to be around, you will find plenty of people who will accept you!!!
Hope you have a good day.
Welcome, I have been here a bit and have made a few friends. It is comforting to know that a lot od us have a hard time meeting new people. I hope you make some lasting friends on here.. Be well.
Sincerely, David
