Loneliness Support Group
Loneliness is an emotional state in which a person experiences a powerful feeling of emptiness and isolation. Loneliness is more than the feeling of wanting company or wanting to do something with another person. Loneliness is a feeling of being cut off, disconnected and alienated from other people. Personally, I found that as I got older, I became more comfortable with physical contact in both personal and business environments.
The Mrs. tends to ignore me as much as possible, often times she makes veiled pointed remarks...rude and hurtful and I take a deep breath with both situations.
Neither one of them believes or tries to understand what is wrong with me, they choose to believe that I lack in fortitude to overcome, to apply myself to healing and so on...
It is so uncomfortable and awkward...I usually do my best to extricate myself from both situations by fleeing to the bathroom to compose myself and don't stay long...the last few gatherings I opted not to attend at all.
All the energy I have is used up by the time I go through the steps to get ready, drive there, get into their home (2 steep flights of stairs) and then I'm all out of steam. I usually get through the awkwardness of the arrival and the remarks and then would sit there ignored by everyone save my kids and my daughter's mate. It is so difficult...
And, yet, we all need it. So we turn to other things to fill this need. For some of us, a chemical can be a warm blanket, a soothing lover. Perhaps, for others, it is money or power.
I've ived a life free from intimacy bit never but it is all I know. So, am I missing anything?
@RuthMarie- My boyfriend's stepdad does that! Every time I see him, he *has* to hug me or touch me, tell me I look great, etc. The last time I saw him, he called me gorgeous. Makes me nervous, but I know it makes him happy to do all that, so I try to let it go. He's one of those people that's just too nice to be mad at lol.
Regarding people I don't know I don't like being touched...when I was younger I was a waitress and could only/would only tolerate being touched on my elbow, hand or shoulder...the last place I worked if anyone tried to get handsy, do anything over the top, they were immediately escorted to the door...by the big muscular guys in blue jackets. Working as a teen in restaurants taught me sadly, just how rampant inappropriate customers/staff and the boss could be. Then in the professional corporate world it got worse. Between years of sexual harassment in the workplace and later having chronic pain...I just need more space........if I knew then what I know now about sexual harassment, I would own my own private island, castle...have gold nuggets lining the walkway to my home...
