Loneliness is hard enough when you are young and healthy, but it is amplified when your body and mind begin to weaken. I worry about not being able to take care of myself and not having anyone to give a hoot about it.
I live on my own, just moved within the last year. Has lost my husband the year before that. The neighbors ragged on me for hiding in my house, so I got out and got into fitness stuff. During yoga, I tore my ankle tendon. So I was in pain for two years, wearing a boot, then a brace. During that time I had four yard sales and moved from a jammed double-wide into a jammed single-wide. Now that the move and sales are over everyone has deserted me. The ankle is getting better, however my long-time back never will. My type II diabetes is out of control and I have a long list of other ailments.
I thought I'd have nearby family because I let my youngest son and wife take over my old home, just a short distance away. They moved from out of state and took over - my house, my neighbors, my friends, my clubs, my church - but they ignore me.
I just think life sucks!

I invited Bill to have dinner with me last Sunday. He wasn't willing to drive 7 hours to mid Michigan and teased me with his beautiful ribs!!! So, of course I ate alone and had cedar salmonĀ

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

If you don't enjoy your jammed single wide, you could just get rid of a small pile of things every day or every week. I don't like clutter at all and when I moved, I got rid of things and enjoy how much neater things are, and how much easier to clean.
You may have a friend or two that would love to hear from you and would like to visit. You can always go to the diabetes groups at the hospital. Also, there's a diabetes board here.
Sending good thoughts and hope things are going better very soon.
It seems changes put a person off balance emotionally. I try to find something that I can do by myself. Like today, I varnished a dresser. Great weather for it.
I keep my sanity by doing volunteer work and a small paying job. And since 2000, I have made a whole bunch of new friends. That really helps.
Take care

I am only 60, have suffered from many illnesses for years. My husband cheated with many women and finally walked out on me and left me to die. I am ill, broke, and find myself without friends or family.
People here have made many suggestions for you to start crafting, finding a hobby and volunteering, which I see as being very difficult for you to do with out of control diabetes, a bad ankle, being in your late 70's and likely with, limited income. I wish I knew the answer because I would share it with you.
My story is long and intense, I won't get into it right now, but I feel your pain. Adult children no longer care and all you are is a burden on them.
It is crucial that you get your diabetes in control and hopefully your kidney's will recover.
I am sorry that you are experiencing these issues. The loneliness is the hardest part, I know. Not having anyone to hold your hand, give you a hug, smile at you or talk to, is the worst.
If you need a friend, I will listen.
DS will make an effort for you; I liked what Bill said....
What we are doing is both sharing some contact
*and!* Trying to come up with ideas on meeting new ppl/or being more assertive in some cases with old (pun not intended :) people.
Will try, next time, to bring it up about church.
Am kinda' wrung out this evening; wish I could say more. Um, maybe DS is livening up ... ? I do know two ppl I used to admire have popped up again, and that makes me happy.
Saw a doctor today; we talked some about sugar in my diet and - especially! - extra low sodium in my intake. I hope you like your doctor.
:) . Thanks for posting. :) :)

I wish I could help you.
The only thing I can tell you is, if you know the Lord, you are never alone.....people will let you down, but He never will.
Pour out your heart to Him, He is always there to listen.........
