My Aunt is now in a nursing home. She always feared this would happen. Actually, first she was in the rehab part. To cheer her, my brother and I go on Sundays and we tell her cute stories and show her funny videos. She likes to hear country songs too. My brother is good for jokes. He says he likes coming because we get to see each other and have some laughs. I actually go on my own about 2 other times a week. On the flip side, there are times when my Aunt is so paranoid, claiming that they are going to kill her. There's no way to tell her it's not true. She says she knows what she sees and hears. Today she is normal and I will visit after my doctor's appointment. I think I will show her a Sebastian Maniscalpo video. He's hysterical.

I invited Bill to have dinner with me last Sunday. He wasn't willing to drive 7 hours to mid Michigan and teased me with his beautiful ribs!!! So, of course I ate alone and had cedar salmon

Mom visited Dad daily to feed him lunch.
My mother in law is in a nursing home too. She is up and down with dementia and recent pneumonia. We try to get her to laugh, show her pictures and put on a good TV show for her. I also worked in nursing homes many years ago as a social worker. Paranoia can be related to many things (medications like levodopa can bring it on, or things like stress as someone else mentioned.
Usually a psychiatrist can figure out what is going on and how to stabilize her.
It is so kind of you both to see her. I am finding with my MIL being in a facility that there are few less lonely places.
