Loneliness Support Group
Loneliness is an emotional state in which a person experiences a powerful feeling of emptiness and isolation. Loneliness is more than the feeling of wanting company or wanting to do something with another person. Loneliness is a feeling of being cut off, disconnected and alienated from other people. The lonely person may find it difficult or even impossible to have any...

Hey, I know this may not be normal but hear me out...I have been diagnosed with severe depression among other things...but..being surrounded by friends and family...I feel so alone. Is that normal..? Does that happen a lot? Because I'm not sure how to deal with it and it only makes my depression worse...surrounded or alone I FEEL alone...

Actually, it is quite normal to feel alone even when surrounded by friends and family. I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety 20 years ago. I do take medication and try to manage my depression and anxiety with exercise, work, and just taking care of myself. However, that feeling of loneliness is always lingering. Some days it feels awful, some days not so bad. You're not alone - there are many people suffering from depression that feel alone even when surrounded by family and friends. Considering yourself or the way you feel as "not normal" isn't fair to you. These are normal feelings to have and being gentle and good to yourself is an important step to take - especially in acknowledging your feelings without judging yourself.

I've gone through therapy and all types of medication, just never helps...so I'm glad I'm not the only one...I've gone off of medication for about a year now because they don't help and I don't like feeling so drugged that moving from my bed is close to impossible...I could cry just talking about it..I'm so emotional sorry

Sometimes people trying to be helpful just makes things worse. It is not unusual to still feel depressed even when surrounded by loved ones. When are the times when you do feel better? What things help? Can you focus on those. I hope you will keep posting.

I don't feel better and nothing helps, I just got really good at faking it

I know how it feels, I feel lonely sometimes even when I am with my friends and family, the feeling just comes over and it takes over my mind and body, however I made a list of the things I like and I try to do those things everyday , for instance I love to do yoga so I try to do that whenever I can. I also love to listen to music so I listened to music all day long. I like reading as well and I try to read everyday. I try to focus on the things that I like to do and yes the feeling of loneliness comes every now and then but I can manage it.

Oh I love so many things but I'm not sure why nothing helps...but I am so so glad that it's helping you! I'm glad you can move past this :)

I heard some people on this site say they feel alone when they are with others. I feel depress when other people are having conversations. Even with family and friends.
SkyeTheRelapseAngel
Me too!! Oh my gosh!! I feel like they don't need me or want me around...

I just cannot get in their conversations. People think is shyness.

That's why I joined dailystrength...so Idk what comes next

Recently I was diagnosed with severe depression. My aunt whom I adore came for a visit and I hadn't seen her in months. Normally then would be a joyous occasion. I spent the whole visit looking out a window barely talking. I am never alone, but I always feel alone. Sometimes I feel like I watching myself when I have to talk to others the song the sound of silence really expresses it for me. Anyhow, when your feeling lonely here is a good place to come. its easier to talk when you don't have to worry about hurting your love ones feelings. :)

i agree. and i totally understand that you would feel that way. most of the time.. family, friends, whoever are VERY invalidating even when they're not trying to be. so you may be calling for help and they think they're helpful but they're only making it worse. is that how you feel?

Sometimes just because a body is there, doesn't mran that person's mind and heart are there WITH YOU. Or maybe they try to be but you are too deep within yourself for them to reach. Sometimes I feel like really deep in myself and it makes me feel alone and far removed from other people. Either way, I think that even people without emotional issues feel this way sometimes. Don't beat yourself up over it. I'm sorry you're lonely, and awww you're so young...

I got an email from Kohl's that I had a 40% off coupon for today and tomorrow only. It took me about an hour but I placed an order and got some great deals. I have been wanting a new dress. I like dressing up sometimes. My birthday is coming up and I have dinner plans at a nice restaurant. But, honestly, I'm a little out of control again. I went through this in the fall. I bought...

Has anyone else noticed that clearly speaking and doing things intentionally is liberating because it helps combat the feeling of depression and a sense of hopelessness? Let me share a little more: in my experience, when those who have tried to project a hidden agenda that is obviously not aligned with integrity and well-being, it's best to be firm and speak clearly from self-awareness and...
