It's seven years now since I retired. Had to retire because of toxic work environment. Since my husband died suddenly many years ago my work was my way of coping with the loneliness. Have tried part-time work and volunteering but these situations trigger awful panic attacks because I'm fearful that the same thing will happen again. As a result I have developed social anxiety. I have become very distrustful of people and the loneliness is so, so painful. My pets are my only friends. I do attend a therapy group every two weeks. My life is so different now. Maybe sharing here will help. Thank you all for taking the time to read this.

Not that that is going to happen. At the moment I have my daughter...
You will find others with similar stories here! It's tough dealing with loneliness. I work two jobs and have a lot of work to do on my house. Keeping busy is a big help. I don't have so much time to dwell on the issue. But everyone has their own way of coping. It helps to write your feelings here and share with the group!!!
It is also good to have a dog. My little rescue mutt is my best friend. Always happy to see me when I get home. She can sense when I am not feeling good and will stay at my side and snuggle!
Welcome to this little corner of the internet where you will not be lonely!!!
It sounds like you need to build confidence back up, not just in working, but basically in that the world won't let you down. Maybe a job, any job, you work, little by little you will feel confident again.
I was living with my cats for a while. Social anxiety started to paralyze me. I forced myself to visualize a happy, healthy, bright and sunshiny version of me. One thing led to another, and I moved across the country. I hope you can find some solution, whether it's baby steps or something radical.
Hugs!
