This guy I know, he's always working, never takes his lunch hour, never spends time with his family (he's married to); leaves for work too early comes back too late works before and past his hours, never takes a day off; works 6 days a week, 7 days a week during Christmas holidays, is in his late 60's; but he CHOOSES to do this, his job is his "avoidance". I don't know if you are THAT bad, but it's sad to see someone like this. Especially if there are people in your life! Maybe you have to bond more with your family. It's important.
Tell your wife you miss her. You want to hear how things are going while your gone to help support her.
Tell your kids you want to be a part of their life more. Ask to call/be called once a day. See how their test went, who they are lunch with, what crazy thing they did in science. etc.
I think fathers often get overlooked, which is incredibly sad. They can be perceived as the fixers or the ATM for some families.
I know if my father had approached me about this, I would have been happy to talk daily and seen it as a token of love for him to want to stay connected with me.
Reach out to them. They may just reach right back!
