Loneliness Support Group
Loneliness is an emotional state in which a person experiences a powerful feeling of emptiness and isolation. Loneliness is more than the feeling of wanting company or wanting to do something with another person. Loneliness is a feeling of being cut off, disconnected and alienated from other people. The lonely person may find it difficult or even impossible to have any...
I've been going to this game store a couple of towns away from me for over a year now, and I still don't feel like there's space for me there. Not for how I think, not for how I play, not for how I am. I am constantly told, mostly implicitly, that little things, or even bigger things I do, in and out of games, is not acceptable, and it honestly I think is starting to trigger me every time I go into the store. I made a post here (not sure if it was this group specifically) several months ago about an incident I had where another patron of the store verbally assaulted me and made me cry before getting up and leaving in the middle of our game. I had a conversation yesterday with a different patron about that incident, and he had the gall to agree with that previous man's actions, that he was justified in his behavior against me. Now, yes, maybe that's just two people out of however many regulars at the store. And nothing says I have to play against those two individuals, and I certainly won't be interacting with either of them anymore, if I can avoid it. But even that feels like two too many people who have now done horrible things to me. That number should be zero. And it just makes the whole store feel unsafe now. But I don't want to give up what has been a real sanctuary for me, a reason for me to get out of the house each week. If I don't have that...

Here is my new brother, copper :) He's so tiny! Moo and Tuck were ok with him on first meeting. Rocket due to his severe aggression will never meet Cooper.

Is there another place you could go to that is in your area, even if a little farther. My son goes to a place and places modern card games and it has been a lifeline for him. He never says anyone assaulted him or gets out of line but a cop owns this store so maybe that is not allowed.
This past week has been cold and icy here and my own loneliness cropped up again. I can totally understand how your attachment to this place has been so good for you. I had to quit my once lovely and friendship oriented book club because some of the people got very political and crazy illogical political. We were a bookclub where politics were not allowed. But many good people left, some died, and I had to eventually quit as I hated it.
But I mourn the loss of this group that once was a huge important sanctuary for me. I am trying other bookclubs but it takes a lot of my courage screwed up to go to the new ones.
Here is a quote that helped me decide about my old bookclub and get the courage to leave it. "Remember if it doesn't bring you love, peace, or positive energy, stop engaging with it." I have this quote up on my wall in my office.
Things change in life. People come and go out of our lives sometimes. We have to focus on the positive people and ignore the bad people but continue with our social groups. Being assaulted is not acceptable! Yes, try to play against the nicer folks and be careful of what you say until you know this person is a good human being. And maybe also try to find another card store place and try it.
Let us know how things go. I can totally understand the feelings of when a social outlet kind of goes bad and we are forced to decide if this brings us peace or not.
I remember the post and it was on the Depression board
I know this guy really upset you abd he's not worth it
I was actually wondering what Hasty brought up
Is there another place that you could go to play the game?
It might be well worth looking for another place when this is so triggering and upsetting for you
Big squishy hug...xo
