Yes, there are people who are worse off than me, but I have trouble getting that into my stubborn brain ("stupid brain!" to quote homer simpson talking to himself)
the bruised cat got me walking 4 miles total to walmart today in snowstorm---for a camera to document his bruises, to send to animal abuse group.
I even took a shortcut up a hill to the walmart, with me digging my gloved hands for traction into deep snow, like a cat.
really nutty stuff, but, predictably, it's replaced worrying about my health---with me feeling better.
2 cats outside my apt today after the snowstorm, to get fed!
It's always been a dream of mine to own a huge farm where I could rescue all the stray and unwanted animals.

There are busy people who do get upset about such things. It's not about having a life versus not having a life. It's about the kind of person you are. It's about having the ability to step outside of yourself and see the world around you.
Many people do not get upset over that stuff because they do not care or they get too caught up in their own little world.
You are simply a good person with a big heart. You can care about others despite your own pain.
And yes helping homeless cats does help you. You are contributing, doing something worthwhile, and something to make you proud of yourself. Often when we are helping others we are helping ourselves, too.
