Hello, everyone. My name is Matthew and I live in Alaska. I live in a very isolated place and live a repetitive life. I've been working at a gas station for about two years now. Same people. Same conversation. Same desk. Same expressions. After work, I go home. When the weekend comes up, I tend to find any way to have some sort of social interaction. I go to the mall...then another. Go to Barnes & Noble then I'll drive around endlessly. I've been doing this for the past two years as well. Every time with no one on my side nor any words exchanged between a human. I have moments where I'll just scream in my car because I am so frustrated knowing every single day that I am alone in a place where you can't travel more than fifty miles. I don't know what I'm searching for. I don't know what I want.
I feel lost.

Matthew, welcome to DS. It sounds like part of the problem is that where you live doesn't allow for much socialization. Is leaving where you live to a place more populous an option?

Hello Matthew! I find just rearranging a daily schedule helps break up the routine at times.Also,look at your interests-hobbies/crafts and get involved with those. Perhaps on the weekend you can go away from the area alone or with someone else for a specific activity=even by bus?

Alaska is know to have many more men than women....like 4 to 1....so it does not surprise me you have no girl to sit next to you...but what about college? community college is more affordable....it gives change of pace from working and nothing else going on and potentially improves ones chances of having more income in future....so since your at that college age what is keeping you away? Income could be part but then there are Pell grants from USA that are free money if you live away from parents....thinking outloud for you...hugs bill

I would be out fishing in boat every chance I had if I were you...LOL

I'm in a big city and sometimes feel the same way, believe it or not. Yes, there are many many opportunities for social interaction here, but there's something in me that often feels a bit disconnected. Like there's some void I just can't seem to fill. You made a good step by coming here. Do you live on your own or with some family members?
