Staring out my hotel room window, in a town clear across the state. I'm on business trip for my new job with the same company. Arrived tonight for a weeks work starting tomorrow. There's something about being away that amplifies the feeling of isolation, I don't know anyone out here, not even the people I'm going to work with tomorrow.
I tried going to sleep already and I don't feel like sleeping at all despite being physically exhausted. I wandered down to the establishment attached to the hotel for dinner after I checked in, got a few friendly glances, but I lack the self esteem to initiate any conversation with anyone. Been that way for as long as I remember, its like a part of me, not that I was expecting to show up and make friends upon arrival here, I'll be leaving on Friday anyway. I don't even know why I started writing this, just feeling extra lonely tonight I guess.

It's hard to travel alone, not knowing anyone - and it's hard to initiate conversation, too, I understand. I usually do initiate conversation, and find most people responsive, but some are not and that's hard to deal with. I hope you will meet some people with work this week, and perhaps smile or say hello to someone at the dining establishment one night. Aside from that, I would say try to enjoy seeing a new place, and not worry about meeting people if there is not a natural opening to do so....hope this helps and that you are able to get some rest, too!

I make it a point to try to get something going with the waitress...name is a start....hers not mine...but then give mine if she is sweet enough to talk to...so what if it means they earned a tip on my check? I talked and they smiled...loneliness does not need to live here 24x7 when I can reach out I do...usually helps patch me together for that time I am with them...then off out the door to another place alone...if you can start to reach out verbally to strangers involved with you like a waitress...it lets you begin to learn how to maybe reach out to another who is not involved with you in any way whom you see across a crowded room and meet eyes with...ah love...haha at last

I invited Bill to have dinner with me last Sunday. He wasn't willing to drive 7 hours to mid Michigan and teased me with his beautiful ribs!!! So, of course I ate alone and had cedar salmonĀ
