Hey everyone! Just thought I'd share a bit about myself. My name's Tim, I suffer from depression and anxiety and have been for years. I've gotten better with them, and I feel like they're more manageable these days. Part of my depression does stem from loneliness, I'll freely admit that...and I mean that in terms of having a relationship.


I've dated before...sort of. Well, maybe not really. I've had a couple people in my life that I can consider to be a "love interest" but none were in recent years. In a sense, I swore off dating until I felt I was stable enough to try again. I'm almost 26 now and I feel like maybe I'm ready. I'm just not sure what the best way to get myself out there would be.


Me and my group of friends went to a renaissance fair today and it was "single's weekend". Anyone who's single would get a sticker to wear all day, kind of as a fun way to put yourself on the market. Of course, I would have gone regardless of what themed weekend it was. A part of me did think to try this out and see what happens. There were some..."interesting" people that I kind of wanted to talk to, but I didn't. It was partly because I couldn't tell who was in my age range, and that's saying something when my job requires me to card people under 17. Needless to say, it was fun but nothing really happened on the "romance" side of things.


I'm home now and, as I'm typing this, I wonder if I should have tried a bit harder. Or maybe things happened the way they were supposed to. I don't know. I feel like I'm finally ready for a relationship, but I don't know how to put myself out there, without looking like a creeper I mean.


Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks for taking the time to read this, either way.

I think what you did is a good first step to get back into dating. Wanting a relationship is a good thing but sometimes people want it for the wrong reasons and can look rather desperate. The companionship is nice I will admit that but sometimes it takes time to meet people. I'm one of those people who wants to know the person really well before starting a relationship (I'm currently in a relationship with one of my best friends from school who I knew for 2 years before we starting dating and we're hitting the 2.5 year mark this October). From what my friends have told me taking baby steps is a good thing for when you want to put yourself out there, especially if you're looking for companionship over just a one time fling (if you wanted just a fling there's always Tinder). It's rather cliche but just be yourself.

I think it's great that you went to the fair. It is hard these days to distinguish between ages! Aside from this issue, try to remember that a lot of women out there are looking for someone too. They put themselves out there too. You are 26, a good age. If you see someone you like at another event, just start with something simple, like "have you been here before?" Something to get a conversation started. It is ok to feel lonely and even better that you can admit it. We all need other people to some degree.

Mirzapan, congrats on the 2.5 mark! :D I definitely want more than a fling, so your right about taking it slow. I think taking time to know someone is the best coarse. I was kind of in a relationship with someone I went to school with for years. I thought I knew her and jump right in. Turns out I didn't take time to REALLY know her and found out she was lying to me and using me. I'm not making that mistake again.

Rruussnn, glad I'm not the only one who thinks it's hard to tell a person's age these days, lol. :p There was one girl at the fair, and she mentioned working at a Dunkin Donuts before, so she as at least older than 16...but that's all I knew. Thinking back, I could have been a bit clever and bought her a rose. If she was underage, at least I could have simple given her the rose and move on. I might try something like that next time.

Anyway, thank you for your responses. :) I definitely want to keep trying.
