I just got a call today from Bel Rea (the vet school in Denver).. they want me in.. They want me to go there for a tour of the school. I dropped out of highschool when my sister had her baby, never really went back.. So the fact that a college wants to accept me even when I'm not yet finished (i'm in another school now to get my diploma) it just makes me feel wanted.. I'm 17. I just started my first job. I'm starting the school to get my diploma. But when I get it I don't know what to do.. Do I go straight off to college? I have a boyfriend I've been with for almost 2 years.. We were planning on moving in together in a few months. Part of me knows the school is my dream. But another part of me doesn't want to go yet.. I just feel like everything happened at once, and it's overwhelming. I don't know if I'm ready. I don't want to move to Denver and be completely alone. Would it be wrong to turn it down and go in a few years? I just don't know who to talk to about this, I don't really have anyone other than my boyfriend.. but it's hard to make these types of decisions when you've only got one opinion (and yes, I'm horribly at making my own decisions..) Any advice? It just makes me feel completely alone that I can't have this conversation with anyone.. :/
and secondly, you aren't alone with this. i took some time off from school when i got out of the military to "enjoy myself and get settled". now i'm back in school and things are good. taking time off can be a good thing if you use it to do something good. personally, i'd say wait a year. see about getting yourself settled in your personal situations and then see if you feel comfortable with going there :)
If you aren't interested enough right now, things may change. I would definitely give it every consideration.

Anyway, I was scared and didn't know what to do. I wasn't ready to start my life so now I'm at a community college. I will be transferring to a university in about a year and I'm really scared. I dated a guy for four years and we were going to go to college together, but right before graduation he left me for some other girl. I'm not saying this will happen to you, I hope it doesn't. You have to think about what's right for you. You have made so much progress with getting your diploma and you are headed in the right direction and you have been blessed with a wonderful opportunity.
Remember, do not be afraid to start life, it's going to happen either way.
If the relationship is meant to be, it will last through vet school. If it is meant to break up, it will break up in vet school. If you feel that you have to stay behind because he might find another girl, that's even more reason to go to vet school.
Think this over carefully. Not many chances are given, and even fewer are given twice.
I have a 4-year degree in Communications. I've yet to find a job from all that expensive education that pays more than $25k a year. Thankfully, I was so dirt-poor that I qualified for and got a Pell Grant, so I don't owe a dime.
I'm on the opinion that short-term, and less-expensive certification/tech programs are better than college. You're in and out in six months and you begin earning money right away. But it depends on what you want to go to school FOR. Engineering, the sciences, medicine, law, etc., of course require a 4-year or longer degree. Look at the material IN the school program. Does anything interest you? Are you people or technology-oriented? Like to think big-picture or details?
