Also, the Asian elephant has provided labor, transportation, and even amusement for humans, eg., circuses. Heck, some of them were taught to play soccer. Why is it that the African elephant remains wild, not to mention one of Africa's most dangerous creatures? Are they just too stupid? too independent? or is it that humans have not taken the time to domesticate them?
Same questions for the zebra. Why are they still wild while horses have served humans for millennia? Same questions for the African cape buffalo. Humans have domesticated the Asian water buffalo. In VietNam they were observed to be almost like pets and very protective of the villagers' children. Even the yak has been domesticated to a significant degree. But not the old African cape buffalo who's as wild and dangerous as can be.
