Me writing this from my library, after my 2007 computer fried out, and unable to even afford a $180 used tower from walmart online.
Counting the days of no computer, way prisoner counts his days in jail----but very willing to make lemonade out this lemon.
I went into nearby 2nd hand store right after the repairman handed me my hard drive; major event for me to even go into a 2nd hand store; claustrophobia, memories of hateful store owners, guilt of just looking....
2nd hand store sold a used computer a week earlier---for $25! I did buy a used tv/dvd combo....ten dollars! And a 1970 superman comic for just 2 bucks (origonal price 15 cents).
Me watching dvds, on a tv, for first time since 2007, when i threw away my tv. And stuck watching all way through, cause no ff/pause. Watching in a chair, instead of on floor with computer. And....patience to watch a dvd, after surfing internet got me all hot wired.
Re-wiring my brain cause dont have internet? Forcing me outside, to library on regular basis. Actually sleepy at 8 at night, cause not wound up from internet surfing? Me more back in real world, even if a little bit.
Maybe feeling a little less lonely cause no computer...despite my feeling I have to post this, from the library;)

I invited Bill to have dinner with me last Sunday. He wasn't willing to drive 7 hours to mid Michigan and teased me with his beautiful ribs!!! So, of course I ate alone and had cedar salmon

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....
maybe going out wont be all bad. it is Christmas time after all. Maybe you will find someone to talk to at the library
Growing up, my family was poor and we shopped at second hand stores a lot. The kids in the neighborhood would tease us relentlessly about it. So it's always been a stigma for me. A few years back I decided to get past that "shame" and just go. Now they are my new favorite type of store! So many good things for so little money. Little treasures here and there.
Anyway, I hope you get a new computer soon. Just don't forget to explore your outside world a little more. The internet is great, but there's just so much more than that out there.
So I'm really pleased to hear that you actually feel LESS lonely, not so wound up and back in the real world. Hope for us all.
I hope we don't lose you altogether though.
friend from 8 miles away, who I usually only see during winter when no construction work, drove me 20 miles for a used tower.
bait & switch got me mad..."hundreds" of towers at 60 dollars on phone, once there, the 60 dollar ones "for kids". Though my friend, who could sell ice to eskimos, got me $30 off for a better used tower.
last night spent 2 hours on floor figuring out new system---and today my back to my toes hurting; 5 days of not sitting on floor, and my back re-adjusted itself!

my landlord, when they got stuck with a garage full of stuff after renter didn't pay, wanted me to take lots of furniture from there, in order to get rid of the stuff. My two cats steal the 2 chairs I have anyhow. One day i'll have to realize, cause of the pain, that I'm not some kid who can sit on the floor anymore.
