my broken record of my elderly cat having passed on....with me still having a cat I got from shelter in 2006, to keep the older cat company, after the sister cat had to be put to sleep
my elderly cat, raised from his birth, definitely different from this poor other cat who was stuck in no-kill shelter cage for a year.
and one cat just doesn't seem to do it, when this cat would rather hang around the other cat than me....with my elderly cat, at same time, avoiding the other cat and only wanting to be around me.
I do my thing, mostly nothing, and cat does his thing, mostly nothing, with him never the play with human type. The 2 of us alone, in my apartment.
But, I cant take a chance on a 2nd cat, especially with my elderly cat to vet in 2007, when a 3rd cat was in the apt, guarding the litterbox.

I invited Bill to have dinner with me last Sunday. He wasn't willing to drive 7 hours to mid Michigan and teased me with his beautiful ribs!!! So, of course I ate alone and had cedar salmon

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....
I strongly suggest you not bring another cat in with the upheaval in the home still strong from the older cat passing. Give the second cat a chance to shine and be the focus of you for a change. .
I felt bad that I didn't give the younger as much attention as before and I went right away to making up for it. Doted on her and let her know I loved her silly face. I even spent $500 to get her shipped to me when I moved out of state. Sadly, I lost her too. But I know she knew that she was not second best.
When you have multiple pets, it's easy to dote on a favorite and the more pushy one. Don't forget that they all need love too. Especially shelter cats who are used to no one loving them and being left to rot in an alley or a cage. Rescue pets are the most grateful for your love.
