I'm coming back to the site after several years away. Recent events have shown me that I have absolutely no support whatsoever. For years, my parents would take me out to eat with them on Saturday nights so I wouldn't be alone. Well, my very narcissistic mother decided because I didn't keep house the way she wanted, I was no longer welcome to their house or to go out with them. In the past month, she has called me only a few times, and it's all been 'have you done what I want, and when I tell her no, she hangs up on me. You'd think a mother would love their only daughter enough to ask how they are.
So, the result of this is I'm not leaving the house and have no family anymore. My mother's behavior had made it where I had no friends anymore as I was forced to choose between my friend (my sister-in-law) and her because they were feuding. My children are grown with their own lives (yes, she's tried to even use my children against me)
Anyways, I am finally after 49 years standing up for myself against her control and manipulation and feel very lonely.

Can you identify these rom-coms from just a screenshot from the middle of the films? This is a multiple choice quiz so even if you're not entirely sure you can always take a guess and at least have a 25% chance of getting it right anyway, so why not have a go?! https://www.buzzfeed.com/alysaurus688/rom-com-screenshot-trivia-quiz

I had a very tough relationship with my mother. She passed away in October. I still find it difficult to talk about her as I don't know what to say. I've had bouts of depression. Now I'm getting over bad bouts of anxiety- All I can say is that I think when a mother behaves in the ways you describe I think that they might have a mental disorder. When I see it that way, I look at the person differently. She has a mental problem.
I'll be 54 next Friday. I don't have support around me either.but I dare not think about it too much or I'll become more afraid. God specifically looks after people like us. I hope it's ok to say that.
Anyway, you aren't alone RD. If I was there I'd give you a hug.
I have to agree with Bill on this one.
Sometimes we have to cut our own family out of our lives to feel better about ourselves and heal the damage they helped cause to our lives. Good for you for fighting off her manipulation and seeing it for what it is.
AND...welcome back
