Life After Divorce Support Group
This community is dedicated to starting over after a divorce. With the marriage over, how do individuals begin a new chapter in their lives and what hurdles do they face? Divorce is often one of the most traumatic periods in a person's life. Studies show it is the second-most stressful event in life, after the death of a spouse.
Has anyone had to deal with an ex getting really sick after a divorce? I have been divorced 3 years now, and just found out this week that my ex-husband probably has terminal cancer. He is going back to the oncologist next week for final diagnosis. Our kids are not handling this well (kids are grown, 24, 21, 18). I don't know how involved I should get???
My ex and I don't really talk, but I have texted him to let him know he can call me if he needs anything. I spent 25 years with this man, so I am not really handling the news well either. I just don't know how to handle all of the grief my kids are dealing with, and I feel like I need to jump in and try to help somehow.
Has anyone else dealt with something like this? I am feeling helpless and don't really know what to do (if anything).
Any advice would be great - thanks!!!

I had gone to the grocery store. When I wheeled my cartback to my car I just stool there a minute. A few spacesaway a Tesla Cyber truck was parked. I had seen it on theroad a few times for a few seconds. But not close up.It looked like it belonged to 2126 and not 2026. I wasgoing to take a picture of the car but the owners cameback and drove away. It was an ordinary middle age...

I noticed you wrote he MIGHT have terminal cancer. Wait and see. I recall a man coming here convinced his EX had breast cancer because she found a lump, had not even gotten a diagnosis and they even told the poor daughter "Mom might have cancer." I felt so bad for the kid because she had just gone through her parents divorce. Anyway, turns out no cancer and the poor kid was drug through the drama for nothing. Wait and see so you don't put yourself though unnecessary grief....again,,,,easier said than done...I know....I too am a worrier, but I'm getting better (((HUGS)))
In response to your question, yes, I am one of those who went through what you describe. In my case, my ex developed cancer and died a few years after our divorce. And yes, it was very tough on my young adult children. I made sure I gathered around myself lots of emotional support and wise counsel as I navigated this difficult challenge. Really make sure you do good self care during this time.
