I find it tough when my six year old tells me she doesn;t want us to live apart anymore and she wants Daddy to come home. That is tough. I suspect my ex has a drinking problem which is working it's way to being out of control. I am sitting back and watching things at a distance but being dilligent to question my daughter inconspicuously. I will ask her how her week at her Dad's was and what they did. She has often shared that they hung out at the local pub which I have spoken to him about but he feels there is nothing wrong with it. While he drinks she plays a game which includes trying to balance a drunk man!
I can provide a stable and safe home for her here and if the time comes when things get out of control over there I will address it then.

That is the hardest part for me too, when both of my kids ask why we can't work it out...

Its so hard to explain to children why their mommy and daddy can't be together...

hey i just read your post and wanted to share something with you. i knew a couple and was actually friends with the wife. they were going threw a divorce. he suspected the wife of having a drinking problem. he didn't do anything about it and let the kids go with her without question. well she took her kids often to restaurants that served alchohol which she drank with the kids present. she would drive the kids after she had been drinking. well one night, she had her daughter, took her out to eat and had some drinks. she was driving her child while she was drunk and hit another car head on. this mom killed a family of 4 and critically injured her own daughter. she is now in jail for murdering the family and for injuring her own daughter.

the point is not to tell you what to do, but i think often people wait for things to happen. my ex husband is a sex addict. i do not trust him around my kids. i made sure the courts knew of everything he was involved with. i have full legal custody and he has specified visitation only. my ex has very specified legal orders about what he can and cannot do in the presence of my children. he has supervised visitation for the first year, no overnights for another year and just started regular every other weekend visitation. i have had a therapist advise me on how to handle the situation with my children.

please don't wait until things get out of control. i would hate for something to happen to her in the meantime. accidents happen. take care and good luck.
