question to you all with partners.

ok i guess we have all at one time or another been in a relationship where there is one particular member of your partners family you can not stand for whatever reason or probably more than one member you can not stand.

so how have you handled it? smiled sweetly just to go with the flow.
avoided that family member whenever possible?which risks rows with partner.

after a few explanations as to why i did not want a member of my partners family to come along with us to show ,i got so frustrated i came out with the biggest reason....i couldn't stand being around this family member for more than a few hours. oppppps .

so i'm in the dog house big time. yeah i know i could had been more tactful but i tried that so i was just honest.

Ah don't worry the dog house is comfy and warm in fact I spend my entire life there I think.

Is a tough situation but can be navigated. My family and my partners are totally different...my family are your stereotypical northen Irish family...when something is wrong we pull together. Family time is just that and so on.. My partners family only see each other on the mothers birthday and they usually don't remember the next day and this drives me nuts. But the only advice I can give and its not good advice is...grin and bare it for your partner (I assume you love her) as its her your in a relationship with not her family and well if it makes her happy concentrate on that...

I agree with Darksnow. It also depends on who the family member is. Golden rule never criticize the parents even though your partner may do so - especially her Mum! But if it's some annoying cousin wanting to come along to see a show with you that could be valid. Also worth exploring if it's the family member that annoys you or your partner's close relationship with them? It is worth exploring more and also opening your arms to the person if possible. What might start as grinning and bearing could turn into family love. I used to feel my mother in law did not like me but she did not know me at first and was simply doing her own thing and as the years past we became close and when she died I was as heartbroken as my partner. She has a difficult relationship with her Dad and I am sometimes a bridge between them. So unless it's some annoying cousin or something do explore more what the root is and experiment with reaching out. Even then it could be the cousin or little sister or something is a closet case and wants to hang out with you guys - any number of reasons - could you give more info to go on? But most of all just try to support and love your girl as its her you should focus on as Darksnow said. Meanwhile good luck and if she throws you a bone in that dog house enjoy a good feed on it and a cuddle even!
