For your situation I can speak from both perspectives, yours and your girlfriends. I didn't really have anyone aside from my family and friends when I went to Bootcamp. But I will say that while I was in Bootcamp the letters that I received from family, friends, and even neighbors were so encouraging to me and helped me through. Even if you were to write to her and tell her about your day or write every other day, it will be a tremendous help for her and also for yourself.
Now on the flipside. I was in the Navy and met my fiance on the boat I was assigned to. We went through one deployment together, then I got out of the navy february 2010 and she left for a 7 month deployment, I believe it was that May or June. I had school to occupy most of my time, but it was tough being together for the past 3 years and then all of a sudden she wasn't there. mf22 is right in that you do have to get yourself out of the house because otherwise you will go stir crazy thinking about how much you miss her and want her home.
I know it is a hard time for both of you but you just have to remember your commitment to each other....and now your commitment to your country. Just because she is the one that swore in and is now going to Basic, you also made the decision that you wanted to continue to be a part of her life which now includes the military. It will be frustrating as all get out sometimes, but it will be worth it as long as you remember how much you love each other.
Also before I sign off, I want to say Thank You to you and your girlfriend for the sacrafice you both willingly made. I wish you both happiness, understanding, and long lasting love for many many years.
I don't want to sound like a party pooper here, but I will add another perspective. First, what branch is she in? Next, you need to be fully aware that no matter how well you know her now, she will be different after basic training. She most likely will have a different mind set and she will be generally changed. The military basic training breaks the individual down and out of the "civilian" mind set and replaces it with a military one. There may be many things you do not understand and many of the things you had in common or liked to do, she may not now. There are a lot of things she will not be able to or shouldn't do now that she is in the military. Now this may or may not be a factor for you two, but you should be aware. I speak from personal experience here, so I know what I'm talking about.
One of the other girls was right in telling you to keep busy, continue living your own life and doing the things you like to do. Do things for yourself. Be ware that she is going into the big wide world of the military, she is going to meet many other ppl,and have many experiences that you cannot relate to, and it is EXTREMELY common for couples to split up because the one realizes that there are other interesting things they want to explore, or that they realise that their feelings had changed. I know this sounds negative and mean, by NO means am I telling you this to make you feel bad or to be mean, it is just something you should be aware of. It happens a lot in the military especially with young people.
Sorry if this a downer. Keep your spirits up and live for yourself..
