My advice to you is no contact for awhile. Your only upsetting yourself by hanging on. Trust me you really don't want to know everything. Not now maybe after you haven't had contact with her for awhile.

I agree with Wakan. You can't go from being in a relationship to friends without taking a break. Wanting to know everything is a symptom that you still haven't let go of her. Her vascilating between being open, and then not is the same thing.

Get out on your own. Do not contact her. Make new friends, and then see what life holds for you. Perhaps you can be friends...perhaps you may not want to. But take that break first.

Id like to know how long too, thus far its been off anf on contact with the X, but I am trying to keep a low key. Still checking her profile on facebook...though.

I think everyone is different time wise but until you are able to see them or hear their voice and not get emotional in any way. It's been 7 months for me and I still don't have contact with my ex but we had 9 1/2 years together.

Are you afraid of setting a long "no contact" period? How about starting off with one week? No checking of her profile and how she is doing. Just move on with your daily activities. Do something else if you are very tempted to communicate with her or check on how she is doing?

I agree, it is very difficult to go from gf to friend immediately.

My ex and I broke up in October and JUST last Saturday had a big falling out as friends. We were in between, not together--but not just friends for 6 months. So unhealthy but sometimes we don't make the best decisions. First time in 3 years we haven't spoken, not a text or anything for 5 1/2 days. It's so so sad but best for both of us, it has to be. Hang in there....i agree with all the posts, it is definitely best. I'm wondering how long this will last too...

Getting over an Ex is like getting over an addiction... This is someone who is in every aspect of your life and all of a sudden she is gone. You do have to do other things when u get an urge to check her FB and MS pages just like when u try to quit smoking, instead of smoke you go for a walk or call a friend or read a book, etc... After a while u will naturally stop thinking about her as much because you will be caught up and more interested in your new found hobbies/friends. Also remind yourself why it didn't work out and keep reminding yourself that even if you didn't choose for the relationship to be over that it is for the best...If either of you weren't happy enough to continue it, then it is best for you both that it is over. Breaking up sucks. I am in a situation sort of like yours. But me and my ex just broke up... like a week ago today. It's really hard cause we were like all about eachother for 2.5 years and all the sudden i have no one to talk to. It was my fault we broke up but that doesn't mean i still don't care about her and everything like that. But even though it's the hardest thing i've ever done, keeping a distance i mean, i know it's for the best because every time i check her FB or something like that i feel like someone has just punched me in the stomach and i found that the best way to avoid that is to try and put her out of my mind. So i guess the way i see it is there is no real way to just move on and let go without just making a decision to do that and following through. Good luck tho cause i know that it's way easier said than done.

Wow. .. Lot more comments on here since I first posted. Ok. I will say this. I havent talked to her in awhile on msn. But I still am having a hard time trying not to check out her facebook. Its harder then I thought. I am honestly scared. Ill never be able to let her go. But I juust wanted to say thanks to all you wonderful people for the comments.
