hi. my name is fallon. i have been a member of DS for a little under a year. if you frequent the ED group, you have probably seen me around. i'm new here though, so i thought i'd introduce myself.
if you look at my profile, you'll see i have a lot of medical issues-the most recent and prevelant being my eating disorder. but i won't get into all that. if you have questions, feel free to ask.
i wasn't always lactose intolerant. my mom's side of the family never handled ice cream very well, but i thought that was normal. for the most part, i ate normally till i hit 17.
i was running late for school, and my mom stopped at a gas station to get us all a quick breakfast. we gobbled doughnuts and chugged milk bottles in the van. a few hours later, i noticed my stomach was absolutely killing me. at first, i thought i had started my period. i went to the bathroom and felt like i would vomit all my intestines in a single heave. eventually, i had the worst diarreah ever.
mom later called the nurse to check on me because she was home with my siblings who were also sick. i thought we had all gotten food poisoning or something. i figured i'd be fine afterward, but it kept happening over and over. prior to that, i had never been allergic to any foods.
eventually, i looked up my symptoms on webmd. when i brought it up to my doctor, she said it sounded like lactose intolerance. she suggested i try lactaid and drink soy milk. lactaid only delays my symptoms. i don't like soy milk. i suppose it's an aquired taste.
i am here to make some friends, get some new suggestions, and ask and answer questions.
i am very concerned about calcium. since i can't have milk, cereal, lots of cheese, etc. what do i do? my cycles are extremely heavy, and every month i worry about the nutrients i'm losing in my blood that i can't replenish with milk or dairy. my dad buys me orange juice with extra calcium, but i'm worried that may not be enough. also, in your opinion(s), does rice milk taste better than soy? are there any over-the-counter or prescription medicines that can help digest lactose other than lactaid? if so, which ones work best? sorry for all the questions and the long post. hope to meet you soon!-fallon

I hear there may be a disolvable calcium pill,,I am already taking a disolvable vitamin D pill.
I take vit D dissovable and see my post on calcium LIQUIDS/POWDERS.JUST FOUND THEM,,they are in 10 different brands, and store I called say easy to take,,mix in food, or swallow.
