Klinefelter's Syndrome Support Group
Klinefelter's syndrome is a condition caused by a chromosome nondisjunction in males; affected individuals have a pair of X sex chromosomes instead of just one, and is associated with additional risk for some medical conditions. XXY males are almost always sterile, and some degree of language impairment may be present.

This is between asking for advice, and a discussion.
I have KS, I found it out 1 year and 2 months ago, 2 months before I turned 22. I have lived my entire life with KS, and never knew it until last year, when I went to the doctor to have a physical. He realized things were not right about me. I suppose most of you know what the signs are of KS, but it seems as if all my past doctors failed to notice. It really pisses me off.
I Have suffered so much growing up facing all the challenges put in the way for me, including being bullied, hard time learning, in which I was held back, I have the hardest time making friends, and even harder times trying to be in a relationship. I kind of have large um.. Moobs? They won't go away, and the doctor said I may have to have them reduced... What friends I do make, I rarely have the courage to see them, is that courage? I have severe anxiety, and depression, both of which I am on another medication for. It seems to help, but at the same time, I feel depressed even while taking it.
My doctor's told me that I would not be able to succeed in Mechanical Engineering, as that is currently my major in college. They said that because I have KS, I lack many um logical? things.. That it would be unwise to put such a burden on my mind. I feel this is rather wrong, but is it true, am I setting myself up for failure?
I am on Axiron, it is an under the armpit treatment that is absorbed through the skin.
I don't really know what advice there is to ask. I have few friends, sometimes I feel like I should just go off of my meds, and see what happens, other times I don't even know what to think. I just need to know if anyone else out there has KS that is as bad as a person could get it. Basically my doctor says I have textbook KS..
If anyone could help me, I would truly appreciate it. Truly.
Justin.

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
I had a similar experience when I first found out about my KS. I had gone to the doctor for something completely different. It was 2003 so I was 16. I still wish I could have known earlier.
I understand the challenges you face. I have always been really self conscious about my appearance, but have come to realize that people didn't really notice. I have told my friends about my condition and if anything it has strengthened our bonds.
As for the advice your doctor is giving you... Don't let anyone tell you that you can't do something like seek further education. It doesn't matter what field you study. It may sound corny, but if you're passionate and confident enough you can do anything. Mechanical Engineering?? That's awesome! I wish I could say that was my major!
I have seen a connection with some of my faults in school that could relate to KS, but my gpa says otherwise and now I'm studying at a CSU.
Tell those doctors to worry about your health and not about your education! :)
I also understand the bullying, I was bullied so much in my 36 years, that it was a challenge to go on at times. In high school, because the students did not understand what I had, were cruel and mean. College was a little better, because by then KS was more known and it was not so taboo to talk about.
I have problems with "moobs", many times people will call me "ma'am" or "miss" because of them. I tire of having to correct them, that I am a guy. Surgery sounds like it can be a lot of hassle, but if will make you feel confident, then try thinking on it and if you choose to get surgery, I hope it goes well.
I believe you can become what you are majoring in college, do not let one person stop you from achieving your goal. I hope that things get better for you and that you find more friends that will stand by your side through everything.
Your doctor is, frankly, an ass for suggesting that mechanical engineering is too difficult for you and would place an undue "burden" on your mind. While you should try to figure out what your limits are, you should always challenge yourself and never stop learning. I, myself, started as an unmatriculated engineering major at NC State before the freshman prereqs (physics, calc 3, etc.) weeded me out. If you're doing alright, stay in the program; if you're having trouble, seek help; if you're failing, seek more help! Don't let the doctor(s) determine the course of your life, let them help you manage your diagnosis.
